How do I know I’m stressed?

Good question! The first step is to listen closely to your body and become more aware of what it’s saying to you.

Stress symptoms to watch out for include:

  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Muscle aches and pains (especially in the neck, shoulders and back)

  • Feeling down, depressed, hopeless or sad
  • Anxiousness
  • Poor concentration

What is energy medicine?

Put simply, energy medicine is an alternative method of restoring balance in your body’s energy field. It’s a great way to unblock your mind and free your body of negative energies.

There are plenty of energy medicines you can use - some take a couple of minutes or, if you’ve got more time to indulge, a few hours.

In general, there are two types of energy medicine:

Veritable energy medicine: Colourpuncture (coloured lights to stimulate acupuncture points), light therapy (using light to combat sleep problems and seasonal affective disorder) and magnet therapy (wearing bracelets featuring a small magnet to help balance the body)

Putative energy medicine: Crystal healing, Reiki, Qigong, Esoteric healing and therapeutic touch.

What are the advantages of energy therapy?

There hundreds of amazing reasons why energy therapy is the way forward. But I’ll just list a few!

As energy therapy becomes a habit you find:

  1. You build a resilience to day to day stresses
  2. The day flows better
  3. You can wow the crowd at a board meeting /presentation
  4. You can hold yourself better in negotiations
  5. The little things won’t get to you as easily (e.g. your computer crashes, the car won’t start or you drop your toast butter side up)
  6. You feel more grounded, centered and clear
  7. Release a particular stress faster
  8. Get rid of negative thinking in 5 mins
  9. Better decision making
  10. More energy for the day
  11. Joy comes back into your life
  12. Your energy matches your day
  13. More creative/productive
  14. Your interpersonal skills improve

These simple and effective energy medicine techniques can be integrated into your daily routine. In fact, they can be used any time day or night.

Here are some of my top ways you can use energy medicine in different situations:

1. When everything becomes too much to handle

If you’re feeling too overwhelmed and everything has become a bit too much, then this can work wonders:

  1. Bend over and touch your second to last toes
  2. Trace your hands the entire way up the side of your legs and torso
  3. Pull your hands behind your head and bring them over so you touch your eyebrows

2. When you need to make a decision

You’ve heard the phrase “sleep on it” (which is also a good idea!), but when you just don’t have the time to sleep on it before making a decision, big or small, this can really help you get the ball rolling:

  1. Place your fingertips over your forehead (like if you were playing hide and seek and you were covering your eyes - but a little higher!)
  2. Push your thumbs slowly and gently onto your temples right next to your eyes. Apply a slight pressure (but not so much that it hurts!)
  3. Breathe in deeply for six seconds
  4. Breathe out for five seconds
  5. Repeat this for 1-3 minutes

When you finish, your mind should feel much clearer and more alert.
