Presidential political discussions are often found in public setting, but when the discussion impedes into the family, things tends to go hay way. A very short negative discussion can ruin your family relationship, making it more susceptible to conflict not even related to politics. So here are top 10 ways to deal with negative presidential political discussions at home.
1. Choose your battles
The rule of thumb for interpersonal relationships is to pick your battles carefully. These negative discussions may pop up naturally, and honestly, you cannot be able to control how your family interprets them, but you can always try to censor yourself by trying to avoid or start unnecessary arguments.
2. Find common grounds
Instead of focusing on the member of your family opinion on a particular negative discussion why not seek shelter in certain opinion both of you will agree about and do not focus on the negative, just find ways to turn it positive.
3. Never get personal
Politics is largely about personal values, so to simply put it, there is no right or wrong way of interpreting issues. You may not like the issues your family member supports, probably because you don’t like a particular presidential candidate, but don’t get personal.
4. Verify before engaging in an argument
It takes two people to start a discussion and the debate mostly start because on person has no facts at hand. You don’t need to argue about one presidential candidate negatively criticizing the other on millions of dollar spent on a particular project without checking the fact first.
