“ Your Mission is to establish yourself as an Authority of Credibility and extreme Trust.” - Nikolas Pulido
What makes a good Connection these Days? How do you stand out on Social Media? Yet the most important question is where do I even begin to start my journey on becoming a Badass Connector.
So here’s a Rundown of Things to avoid in 2020 when connecting on any Social Media Platform with new Connections, Friends, Acquaintances or Prospects. The Term doesn’t matter, yet the result is what counts.
1. Static and One-Sided Questions
Let's start with one of the most annoying things you could say to a person you just connected with "How are you?" & "What do you do?" are really great examples to express your own Disinterest and Lack of Research Skills.
One thing I see so many people ignore is that we as people want to be cared about, and none of these kinds of questions will help neither party since they don't provide context and can be found out otherwise.
2. Commoditized Phrases & Statements
We all see it, common Statements that are used by a huge majority such as "Great to connect, Keep it up, Let's schedule a Call, Love all your Content, ...."
Now as these Sentences could be as positive as it gets, the problem is that on any professional networks everybody is using these statements and it's really hard to understand the actual intent.
Assuming you want to build a genuine Relationship, be creative & add context to your encouragement!
3. Asking for Referrals to early
"Do you know anyone?" is one of the most insane questions to ask a new Connection, not just because of a variety of reasons such as:
A) The person has no clue what you're looking for (Anyone will lead in nobody)
B) Referring you to another person is a very big ask and you have to establish yourself as a credible trustworthy authority first in the perception of the person.
The Main Reason this will not work because for this to work, you have to be invested in the other person.
4. Risky - How can I help you?
Now I get that saying "How can I help you?" will serve you well once you have a solid relationship. However in the first Meetup and you literally just got connected, do not assume you will get what you want since most people are unclear themselves, don't really know what you can help them with & maybe private and ashamed to admit what they actually need help with.
You got 2 Options, figure it out or build a relationship and then subtle brainstorm it or give a recommendation!
5. The Nasty Recruitment Hunt without a Profile
"Hey I just got this in, do you keep your Income Options open?", is probably one of the first things to mention to anyone.
Now I understand the frustration new recruiters have. The problem is that in most cases these statements aren't probably researched and sent to the wrong people.
However, the main reason why it will not work for anyone in 2020 is that we are overly suspicious and a customized approach based on a profile will be much more effective.
6. Generic Copy & Paste Messages
COPY & PASTE Messages can save time in the short-term and can work with some customization based on the individual but they are a huge longshot because they just sound too generic.
The only appliance of these tactics should be in newsletters, automatic emails or anything people signed up for.
The main Recommendation is, avoid it at all costs since when it comes to connecting with Humans you are much more effective going Door to Door and treating everybody in a unique way.
You can have systems & scripts but you should be mindful.
7. Forex, Cryptocurrency & Trader Talk
With its upcoming Rise in the Business Space and it's irregulated Use, Cryptocurrency had a huge magnet to attract Scammers & all kinds of Hobby Traders convincing others to invest in their project.
Now while there are some Investment Projects who may be credible, this is by far not the norm.
Forex, Cryptocurrency & Other Questionable Investments have a bad reputation and therefore you selling this have to differentiate yourself.
8. I have a bad feeling about this...
We all have it at some point, you'll see a profile, an image and something is a bit off. Especially the images and the content exposed to those profiles will tell you a lot about an individual or paint a picture that doesn't have to be true.
One of the most important Things when connecting on any kind of Platform especially on Linkedin is to establish yourself as a credible & trustworthy Authority.
Scoring high on Profile Perception is extremely important. A mistake I see with every 2nd profile I encounter is the lack of consistent Design and Professional Imagery & Description.
9. Complex Connection Process
Moving up the ranks, "User Experience" is an incredibly important part of the process. Whether that's via filling out a form or having a complex calendar schedule in place, depending on what you are trying to achieve or arrange, the Objective should always be to make it as easy as possible for your Contact.
Time is critical and vital to everything!
10. The Unsolicited Business Pitch
How you do Business is up for debate and completely a matter of Product, Service & Industry.
What shouldn't be for debate is the common issue of making cold pitches, without prior connection, information, a completed sales process and hoping for a response.
The most received message is a combination of many of the Points above in the form of a business pitch that is mostly based on generic information and doomed to fail.
This will be the worst mistake you can make, don't go in without a plan in place and definitely don't fuck up connections that would have been beneficial.

5 年One of the things I have seen and explored on Linkedin is that it's quite common to fall into a rather inauthentic approach when it comes to connecting over direct message. I am curious who is willing to debate me on that??
