Top 10 Technological Predictions for 2023

Here are some of the major enterprise technology tipping points we anticipate for 2023:

  1. No surprise here - Generative AI will flourish, with advanced chatbots like ChatGPT providing descriptions, answers, and solutions to complex questions including ways to write code and solve layout problems and optimization queries. We are already seeing new breakthroughs in the field that have the potential to drastically change the way we approach content creation. Successful use cases include college-level essays, poems, and AI-generated art, but the scope of Generative AI will expand rapidly over the coming year.
  2. Industrialized machine learning?will move from pilots to production scale for real-world business use. Think of this in the context of solutions that will provide the software and hardware technologies to scale machine learning workflows and facilitate the development and deployment of machine learning for organizations. Examples will include data platforms for data discovery and extraction, monitoring of live data, and model libraries.
  3. We believe (at long last) that - digital-ownership rights will be protected, giving each of us permission to access and or use data, information, and knowledge about ourselves or about the objects we own, and grant or revoke rights on this data.?For example, as Web3 gains traction, user data will be stored on the blockchain rather than in large databases owned by massive companies, which means that individuals will finally be in control of their data.
  4. Explainable AI’ tools and processes will flourish along with the establishment of governance frameworks that set standards and guidance for AI development teams, as well as implementing best practices and determining the toolsets that will unlock the ‘black box’ of decisions reached by AI systems. Organizational talent strategies to support AI governance will evolve to include both legal and risk experts who can navigate applicable regulations, in addition to future-proofing core AI applications.?
  5. We predict that converging biological and information technologies will improve well-being and human performance, transform value chains, and create innovative products and services. Also known as bio-digital convergence, this could change the way we design and manufacture goods, as well as revolutionize healthcare and agriculture, and modify the environment. In more extreme cases this will even alter how we humans evolve as a species, such as knowing what genes turn things on or off using advanced digital technology that is capable of doing the necessary sequencing.
  6. Next-generation digital assistants will monitor the environment and provide ambient experiences triggered by voice, gesture, or glance. These react to - or proactively anticipate - and fulfill our requests. We already know that giving an AI assistant a visual identity is the next logical step to making it feel more human. For example, affective AI, otherwise known as empathic emotional intelligence, will result in machines with personality and charm.?
  7. On the outer limits of technological breakthroughs, neural interfaces that afford direct communication between biological thought and digital response are already evolving. For example, enabling those with certain disabilities to use brain signals in order to control external devices, or In tandem with these developments on the technological front lines will be a renewed focus on delivering an exceptional employee experience. One thing is clear - worker engagement and inspiration will necessarily be front and center on all business leaders’ agendas.
  8. AI will move towards versatile systems that can learn and imitate a collection of previously unique human behaviors. So-called Foundational AI models can be trained on broader knowledge domains, thereby learning things in a way that may subsequently be applied to different tasks, making them more versatile than current AI models and closer to replicating typical human behaviors. For example, using self-generated feedback in place of human explanation to continually learn and enhance performance without the need for human supervision.
  9. The cloud will facilitate new technologies and platforms rooted in cryptographically secure systems. For example, sensitive data stored in company IT architecture such as servers, discs, or cloud storage services is known as data-at-rest. Administrators impose access control by only issuing decryption credentials to authorized staff by encrypting data while it is being stored. However, we will begin to see quantum-safe algorithms that in time will become the new security standard. These cutting-edge constructions will be based on far more complex mathematical approaches than those widely adopted today.
  10. Finally, we believe that digital content will be interlaced seamlessly into physical spaces. We are already seeing a distinct movement towards a world in which the virtual and physical environments are indistinguishable from one another, even as our ability to create online content and rapidly process data expands exponentially. This trend will accelerate over the coming years, as the tremendous processing power of quantum computers will play a huge role in helping the Metaverse operate and fulfill its promise of a fully immersed, interactive, user experience.

One certainty is that our analog-digital ecosystems are primed for new work in 2023. Progressive capabilities - particularly AI and machine learning, including Web3 concepts - will be used extensively in everyday work situations.
