Top 10 social recruiting tools that you should download today!

There are now a plethora of social recruiting tools available online. It is essential that all recruiters equip themselves with a toolkit that is tailored to their specific recruitment needs. The benefits in improving efficiency and productivity are clear. Here are ten social recruiting tools that you should download today.

1. Hootsuite

Hootsuite is the social media manager's dream but it's also a very useful tool for recruiters. Keyword streams can be added which will highlight any mentions of your chosen keyword on social media platforms. A mention could be the cue to engage with a user.

As you can schedule social media posts through Hootsuite, it means you don't have to log on to each social media platform every time you want to post content. This is especially useful in the planning of a content marketing strategy.

2. WhatsApp

WhatsApp may have 1billion users worldwide, but it's very much an 'untapped' tool when it comes to recruitment. As a cross-platform messaging app, it has several useful functions for recruiters. On WhatsApp you can see whether a message sent to candidates has been delivered - and if it has been read. It can also be useful as a way of checking that a mobile number has been verified. And it shouldn't be overlooked that WhatsApp has overtaken SMS messaging as the messaging platform of choice.

3. Twitter search

Twitter as a platform has various uses for recruiting purposes, but one of its more specific functions is a Twitter search. This allows you to quickly search for any mentions of a potential candidate's email address. This can be a real time-saving tool.

4. Followerwonk

Another great time-saver and another tool focused on Twitter is Followerwonk. It is fantastic for searching and filtering Twitter bios. Using a combination of keywords and Boolean Operators, it is great for producing accurate results.

5. SalesLoft

Although specifically aimed at sales teams, this tool can be really useful for recruiters too. It is especially helpful in trying to attract passive candidates. An email list of prospects can be imported and workflow steps created. Open, click and response rates are easily trackable and personalised tags can be added too. This semi-automation tool is another real time-saver.

6. Feedly

For many recruiters, finding or producing interesting content that can be posted on social media platforms to attract and engage with potential candidates is another time-consuming task. Feedly allows you create a personalised newsfeed from blogs, news sites and any websites. This can be a great source of ideas for new content and allows you to stay up-to-date with what is going on and any latest trends.

7. IFTTT

IFTTT (If This Then That) is an ingenious way to promote job postings (or any other content) across social media and is a fantastic way to automate. Essentially, you create a 'recipe'. For example, If this - you post a vacancy on your website, Then That - the same content is posted on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter - or any of the 300 other apps IFTTT will connect to.

8. WordPress

As the world's most popular blogging system, WordPress is an easy way to ensure that your potential candidates are provided with relevant and useful content. Becoming recognised and trusted for the quality of the content that you post is a clear way to build credibility and trust.

9. SourceHub

Boolean searches are superb for producing excellent, filtered searches. However, if you are not familiar with how Boolean works, it can get somewhat confusing and frustrating. SourceHub takes the strain away by performing targeted searches for candidates on over 10 different social media platforms. All you need to do is enter the title, skills and location relevant to the position - and SourceHub will do the searching and sourcing for you.

10. Simply Measured

If you want to engage with social media in recruiting, you need to use analytics. Simply Measured is a suite of analytic tools that can be customised to provide such data as follower analysis on Twitter and performance metrics for the content you have posted. Using such tools will allow you to analyse strength across all the social media channels you use, and will give you insights into what is working well and what isn't.

Absolutely agree Helen. I would also add that having access to these tools clearly doesn't guarantee success, you need to know how and when to use them. I just hope that recruiters realise that there are different ways to engage with talent

Andy, a really interesting article. I agree social media recruiting can create countless opportunities to connect with a vast number of prospective candidates, but resourcing strategies need to be defined and well-organised before businesses jump into the game. With so many social media networking options don't you think it's it is easy to lose sight of your recruiting goals.
