Top 10 Signs Of A Toxic Boss

The first major sign of a toxic boss: They always believe they're right.

There is always a belief that they have all the answers. By validating their opinions, you are promoted, If you don't then you are demoted.

Number two: Favoritism is evident.

It's not about performance or results with them. Those who are in that clique, in that circle with that toxic boss, have better career advancement opportunities than those who are not.

Number three: They're only interested in advancing their own careers.

Rather than mentoring or developing their staff, they spend most of their time managing up and sucking up.

Number four: They're micromanagers.

Rather than focusing on results and performance, they micromanage people to death. They are more concerned with controlling and owning you, rather than productivity and outcomes. It is their exact way, or the high way.

Number five: They make inappropriate gestures and comments in a meeting.?

Their body language. So sometimes you'll say something and their eyes will start to roll, or they'll start to scoff at something you've said, and in their way they are undermining you, trying to create self doubt within you in these meetings.

Number six: They publicly humiliate people in front of their direct reports or their colleagues.

Their staff is publicly humiliated. As a result, they feel powerful over you as a person.

Number 7: Teams are pitted against each other.

Through rule and division, they create unhealthy team conflict and a climate of apprehension to not be embarrassed, or shamed publicly.

Number eight: They don't give constructive criticism.

Since their criticisms are destructive, they rarely acknowledge your accomplishments. You cannot network with other departments because they will point out your mistakes immediately. To them, being on top of everything is all that matters, and they will point out all the things that you are doing wrong, while diminishing all the good things that you have done.

Number nine: There is no work life balance for them is what work, what life, what balance?

You'll be asked repeatedly to stay late or come in early, and if you don't, you'll feel the invisible pressure that you're going to be outside of the circle of what they consider as a good employee, and you'll start to get the cold shoulder. If you don't conform to their working practices then they will alienate you. There will be constant pressure to always do more and more hours but for less financially.

Number 10: They use fear.

They use fear to control people, so they worry about their place in the team and in the company, rather than what good managers and leaders should do, which is to use positivity and common goals to reach the goals as a team and as an organization.
