To help you on there road to SEO gain, we have put together our top 10 SEO tips now! These tips are not the be all and end all of search engine optimization training. They are however, some things that you must do on a long-term basis.

Here we go:

1. Set up a decent site

Your site should be on a decent hosting company that will give you plenty of bandwidth and a good amount of storage. You need to keep in mind that on average, less than 5% of your traffic will come from organic search engine optimization efforts. The other 85% is from paid ads.

2. Proper Keyword research

The keyword phrases you use needs to be relevant to the content of your site. Remember, once someone types in a keyword phrase, they're looking for solid information and don't usually have time to check out the dress specification. Thus, the trick is finding the targeted keyword phrases that not only get sufficient search volume, but it, mistakenly, also isn't competitive as well.

There are also tools like WordTracker that can tell you which keyword phrases are worth tracking. Check it out, they're free!

3. Validate your Title and Meta Tags

When adding a page to your site, check your title and description tags. Does it read well and reflect the content on the page? If not, it may be time for a little optimization. Validate your title and meta tags will tell the search engines what the page is about.

4. Navigation

Nothing is more frustrating that having to click more than three times to get a clue which page you are on. This is true even if you're on the same site. Describe your site accordingly and maybe even put a link on each page going back home. People like smooth navigation. On the other hand, if you're confusing the viewer, chances are they're looking for a familiar site to remember. Add a navigation bar.

5. White Hat

We cannot stress this enough. The only way to be successful is using white hat techniques. Doing things like making a sitemap will assist your site in being indexed. Don't get caught up in software programs that make web pages that cross-link or other spammy techniques. We don't like that stuff and neither does the search engines. You have to be fair. Use your head and leave those out.

6. Add Links

Sometimes, you'll need some links to help spiders find all of the pages on the site. Start writing articles on your site and submit them to directories. You never know when a search engine may pick up on that and add you to their listings faster than you could imagine.

7. Site Maps

A site map is a page linked directly to your index page. It helps the search engines easily index all your site pages.

8. Email

In your email, let others know you've put a sitemap page on your site. We mentioned linking to it in our tips above regarding site maps. Don't forget the links too! Let the search engines visit your site and find your site.

9. Newsletter

Sign up for a newsletter that is related to your site. This newsletter should be related to the site and should provide quality information on a regular basis, especially if you sell products or services.

10. Duplicate Content

Always make sure that your text has been changed. If it's duplicate content, the SE spiders will pick up on this a warning flag and penalize you for it. Not only that, it could be that you're penalized for the content of the rest of your site as well.

Keep it fresh! If you have duplicate text, it should be changed or removed. It also collects web-spam compliant RSS and other content.
