I’ll admit, when most people hear the term life coach they have no idea what it really means. Obviously one knows that a coach is one that helps guide and mentor someone else, teaching them necessary items along the way. In fact, the term coach is actually a reference to the carriages that were once pulled by horses for hundreds of years to serve the purpose of bringing a person from one place to another. Such as in the word stagecoach that you would associate with the Wild West.
Really, that’s what a life coach’s role is. My job as a life and health coach is to take a client from where they currently are in their life and guide and mentor them to where they ultimately want to be. Life coaches may have a variety of focuses that they work with clients in regard to. Some focus more on strictly goal setting or maybe prioritizing health and wellness. Others work more with major career or life transitions. While still others help clients find more clarity and direction in their lives, ultimately bringing clients more happiness and fulfillment. In my line of work, I focus on all of these items to an extent with clients while really putting a person’s physical and mental health and wellness at the core of it all.
My role is not to tell a client exactly what to do when they have puzzling questions and situations in their lives that they’re looking for guidance on and assistance with, nor is to know everything about everything. My role is to ask the right questions to make somebody come to their own realizations about things in their life and to offer potential suggestions and items to think about. When it comes down to it, true change has to occur at an emotional level. If a client isn’t brought to that level and required to come to realizations at their deepest levels as far as what is holding them back and troubling them, change and reaching that new place will be impossible for them.
So, what are the Top 10 Reasons To Hire A Life Coach?
#1 – Life Has No Coach – If you think about your career and professional life, you probably have a boss, supervisor or mentor that can guide you, show you things, help you along the way, etc. With everyday things in life, however, there is no coach or instruction manual. Nobody coaches you regarding your marriage, how to workout and eat properly to get results, how to grow and develop your identity, how to find true happiness, etc. Working with a life coach allows someone else to help you with the most troubling areas of your life to improve them and live your best life.
#2 – Manage Your Time Better – If there’s one item that every single client I work with immediately needs improvement in, it is this one! Once you are better able to manage your time and get more organized, you will become more efficient in every area of your life. This allows you to do more of the things you love and spend more time with the people you care about.
#3 – Improve Relationships – Whether it’s the relationship you have with you spouse, kids, friends or other family, many times these relationships need new energy, perspective or just a plain tune-up. A life coach will help you get the most out of the positive relationships in your life, as well as eliminate or lessen the significance of the ones that are no longer serving you positively.
#4 – Prioritize Health and What’s Important to You – At the core of it all is a person’s health and wellness because if you don’t have it, you don’t have anything, right?! While putting a strong emphasis on health and wellness, my clients see an improvement in their overall health, energy levels, mood and even self-confidence. Identifying personal values, beliefs and philosophies to direct your life toward will also help you identify what is truly important to you.
#5 – Stop Self-Sabotaging – At the heart of many deep issues, are self-limiting doubts, beliefs and fears. A life coach will help you identify the root causes of these and help you eliminate them so they no longer hold you back in life. They will also help you generate new and positive habits and behaviors to allow you to excel in every area of your life.
#6 – Increase Self-Confidence – A lack of self-confidence and low self-esteem is often the reason why you fail to go after what you really want in life. A life coach will help you increase that confidence through reaching goals, benchmarks and milestones, as well as helping you push and grow yourself physically and mentally.
#7 – Reach Goals – Everybody has goals in life. The problem, however, is you may not know exactly how to go about planning to reach them. Being understood and having an effective plan that is specific to you, a coach will be able to develop a strategic plan that will take you to your new destination.
#8 – Develop Strengths and Improve Weaknesses – Many times, you may not even know what your own strengths and weaknesses are in particular areas of your life because you’ve never taken the time to identify them. A life coach will take you through a discovery process that will help identify these so that you may capitalize and improve on them, while putting you more in touch with your true self.
#9 – Reduce Stress – Imagine having an assistant that can help you organize tasks, your schedule, meals, family items, etc. and the reduction in stress it would result in. As a life coach, one of the cornerstones of my program is to help clients get organized and manage time better because these are the root causes of the majority of stress for most people.
#10 – Find Happiness, Balance and Fulfillment – Life is short. It’s meant to be lived and enjoyed, not just merely survived. If you feel like you have that itch or scratch that you just can’t take care of, it’s usually because there’s something missing from your life or something you need to let go of. As a life coach, I help clients prioritize what really makes them happy, how to balance things to achieve more of that happiness and find that fulfillment in life they’re maybe lacking.
Overall, my mission and passion is to help others live healthier, happier, and more balanced and fulfilled lives.
