Top 10 New Year Resolutions from LinkedIn Users

Top 10 New Year Resolutions from LinkedIn Users

Just before Christmas I crowdsourced the LinkedIn community to see what their business based New Year Resolutions were going to be and I have compiled a list of the best 10:

  1. Rahul Welde is the Global VP - Digital Transformation at Unilever based in the UK and I can totally identify with his succinct choice of resolutions for 2018:
"Less PowerPoint. Less email. More discussions. Less pontification. More thinking. Meet more interesting people. More with less (more impact with lesser effort/resource)"

2. Kris Aguilar is Digital Marketing Specialist and Content Creator based in San Francisco and his resolutions are all built around a common theme of focus:

"Remembering why you're doing something and focusing on it. After awhile, I think we get too comfortable in our roles and start to lose focus. We let workplace drama, tedious jobs and stressful clients make us want to do something else, but focusing is golden"

3. Susan Wheeler is a Certified Pharmacy Technician in Seattle and she wants to keep things simple to make time for more important matters:

"Being adventurous. Trying new activities. I plan on trimming back and keeping things simple, pairing down. Simplicity is the key to making more room for activities that really matter"

4. Mark Bowling is Head of Strategy for PHD in China and his hashtag resolution couldn't be any clearer if he tried:

#enjoywork

5. Freddie Brockwell is the proprietor of Cherry Tree House in the UK which caters for profoundly disabled young adults and his message is an uplifting thought for all of us in business, no matter the industry:

"Care more - criticise less"

6. Andrew Goldman is a Senior Director for B2B Content Marketing at TIAA in New York and he makes a point about less talking, more listening and finding your true potential instead of trying to fix flaws:

"I'm starting a new gig and intend to do more listening than ever before. I believe content marketing needs to break ground on the instinct of entrenched marketeers. I need to hear it from them. And quoting from Ellen Goodman: We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives... not looking for flaws, but for potential"

7. Eileen Loughlin is a Management Consultant professional from Pittsburgh and she echoes the thoughts of Andrew Goldman whilst adding in an element of learning and applying it:

"My resolution for 2018? Listen. Learn something new everyday and apply it, share what I have learned, and most of all be compassionate but firm"

8. Sarvesh Singh is a Business Development executive based in Mumbai and he says we need to consider more wisely who to trust in business:

"Be more involved with people who care for what you do and stop being loyal to ones who can betray. Basically always be aware of people's intention while dealing with them and never trust anyone blindly"

9. Ugochukwu Nwokeke is a Sports Analyst based in Nigeria and his views echo the same thoughts I expressed in an article I wrote called "You Say It Best When You Say Nothing At All":

"My motto going into next year is 'cerra su boca' which, when translated from Spanish to English, means 'close your mouth'. I've found it quite powerful so far, I only talk when it's necessary and it gets me into less trouble!"

10. Margareta Badiu who is the CFO for Cebb Engineering in Fort Lauderdale ends the list with a very heartfelt and powerful comment about self belief and eradicating self doubt:

"Whatever your personal goals are and wherever life takes us accept the challenges with no fear and no self doubt. Fear is the root of failure. Discover in the process what makes you unique and embrace it. Do everything from your heart but run it through the mind. Rely only on yourself and your beliefs. Fight your demons. Do everything with love and that will be a reward itself"

So there you have the Top 10 New Year Resolutions from a broad cross section of the LinkedIn community. What did you make of them and what is your own New Year Resolution?

If you are vaguely interested, I am personally going to give less f**ks about what people think, focus more on relationships / partnerships, read even more than last year and strive to be a healthier me in 2018.

Thanks to all the people who contributed beyond the top 10 who were finally selected. I appreciate the time and effort you took to help shape this article.

"Care more - criticise less" Freddie Brockwell I was ranting to my girlfriend for about an hour on this yesterday. It's a lot easier to find criticism than it is to find encouragement and understanding. Glad you got featured on this.
