? Myth #1: Working in sports = 5 days a week job.
? Reality: While the organisation might give you 5 days working week depending on your job profile during the planning phase of sporting events, this changes close to the event time. It can be flexible, can have lesser hours or compensatory offs for the busy weeks.
? Myth #2: Working in sports = 9 to 5 job.
? Reality: While the organisation may have a flexible 8 hours shift during the planning phase of sporting events, this changes close to the event time as the competition timings decide what your schedule for the day would be. It can be flexible, can have lesser hours or compensatory offs for the busy weeks.
? Myth #3: Working in sports = Weekends are free.
? Reality: While the organization may have free weekends during the planning phase of sporting events, this changes close to the event time. Sporting events are generally planned over weekends to ease it down for the fans and followers meaning busy weekends for you as a worker.
? Myth #4: Working in sports = Glamor and you getting on camera eye.
? Reality: While during the event it might be glamorous with so many things happening around you, a lot happens behind the scenes and may not be as glamorous as you think. You may get on camera eye if you’re working in front of house operations during event, but that’s a highly unlikely perk and may not happen. Majority of the roles are back of house, supporting the event. Moreover, for camera persons/broadcasters, sportspersons, athletes, spectators and/or VIP are the show, not you.
? Myth #5: Working in sports industry= any other regular industry.
? Reality: While there are long term sports organizations (federations, sports companies, etc) and time-based event organizing committees, a lot of the roles are time based, primarily short term/freelance nature unlike any other industry where majority of the roles are long term/full time nature.
? Myth #6: Working in sports = You must be a sportsperson.
? Reality: While there are sportspersons who run the technical conduct of sports generally, there is no yardstick for other job profiles in sports. You must have passion, flexibility and learning attitude though coz sports explores and enhances your soft and professional skills.

? Myth #7: Working in sports = hanging out with the players.
? Reality: Hanging out with your colleagues is okay, and these might include the ex-players, but that’s not the case with active players who are there to perform. Advisable not to stop them in their planned day.
? Myth #8: Working in sports is all about your favorite team.
? Reality: While getting to work for your favorited team can be your dream, working in sports will test your allegiances quickly. You’re there for a job and that job will decide what your path would be.
? Myth #9: Working in sports = watching all the games.
? Reality: While a well cultured organization could get you some employee tickets, it isn’t a widely followed practice. You have an access card that might take you inside a games venue but that is given to you for operational purpose, not for spectator experience.
? Myth #10: Working in sports = you get tickets at will.
? Reality: While getting employee tickets could be a huge perk, working in sports goes beyond just getting tickets. You may or may not get tickets depending on the popularity of sport as well as employee benefits planned. Your role is more about creating those unforgettable experiences for the client group you’re serving which can be fans, and community, but could be your colleagues, VIPs, Sportspersons, Media or Officials.
