Top 10 Moments for February 2021

January was all about resetting and turning the page to a new year, but for me, February is about taking time in the moment to engage and be present. It’s more important than ever before to take a breath and prioritize the care of our families, our colleagues, and communities.
So, in the spirit of recognizing and embracing the “now” – here’s a list of ten extra-special ways to engage and find something good in the moment throughout February, in New York and beyond:
1. February is Black History Month: Take this opportunity to get to know Black voices through podcasts, books and documentaries. Listening is learning. In NYC, EY is hosting a Day of Understanding on 2/10 where we'll recognize and amplify new important perspectives, and on 2/25 we're hosting a Black Executives Conference to discuss inclusive leadership and how to embrace the strength in our differences. Find a way to learn and listen this month.
2. February 2 – Groundhog Day: As you may have seen, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this year – which means six more weeks of winter, according to lore. I know that every day feels like Groundhog Day, but at least this one we can smile about. Remember, winter doesn’t last forever.
3. February 7 - Superbowl Sunday: Are you ready for some football? Whether you're there for the football or commercials, it's entertainment for everyone. Enjoy the day with your family or your quarantine squad.
4. February 9 - National Pizza Day: Nothing says New York like pizza! What a great way to show a team or group of colleagues that you appreciate them- send them a pizza or grab a slice from your local favorite.
5. February 12 - Lunar New Year and the Year of the Ox: Learn more about the holiday that’s all about luck, health and family. Show some support for Chinatown or support a neighborhood restaurant by ordering take out.
6. February 14 – Valentine’s Day: Recognize the people you care about by showing them some love and gratitude! Deliver flowers, send a card or just pick up the phone to check in on each other.
7. February 15 - Presidents Day: Take time to remember what our Founding Fathers created and recommit to democracy and equality for all.
8. February 17 - National Random Acts of Kindness Day: Now more than ever, a little kindness goes a very long way, whether you pay for the person behind you at the coffee shop, call an old friend, or write an overdue thank-you note.
9. February 22 - National Walking the Dog Day: Having a dog around can lead to lower levels of stress, so take some time to show some love to your four-legged friends and to yourself by getting out and walking with them. I'll be spending lots of time walking with Blake, Baxter, so we're all over this one!
10. February 28 - It’s not a leap year, but let’s end the month strong. Get moving and think about how you are staying fit and healthy in our virtual working world. Take a leap (see what I did there?) and try something new today!
I can’t wait to hear how you engage and recharge this month. I hope you'll let me know! Stay strong, #NYC!
