“You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read.” Charlie Tremendous Jones
If you're not growing you're dying. We all have to constantly be learning new things and feeding our mind to make the necessary shifts for growth and to produce better results for ourselves. If you change your thoughts and seek out better ways to do things you can change your outcomes.
I recommend reading or listening to AT LEAST one book per month that is going to help you evolve as a human being. If you don't have time to squeeze one in I suggest starting with number three or four on the list.
Here are ten favorites from my library in no particular order.
- Start With Why by Simon Sinek- Learn how great companies like Apple and Southwest were able to inspire people to take action with their ideas. People will believe in you if you give them a reason to.
- Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor - Positive psychology at work. Achor lays out the seven principles of positive psychology that fuel success and performance at work and backs it up with data.
- Compound Effect by Darren Hardy - Success is doing half a dozen things really well five thousand times. Darren's shares the strategy of reaping huge rewards from small seemingly insignificant consistent actions.
- What Got You Here Won't Get You There by Marshall Goldsmith - Goldsmith teaches us about the importance of behavioral skills verses technical skills. Ownership, accountability, listening and the willingness to change separate the good from the great.
- Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill - Change your thoughts and change your outcomes. This classic wealth mindset book outlines the 13 principles to be mastered to achieve success.
- Peak by Chip Conley - Business success does not come from meeting people's needs but from knowing which needs to meet. Conley shares how great companies get their mojo from Maslow.
- Who by Geoff Smart and Randy Street - The authors focus on one subject only which is hiring. The share their method which they claim has a 90% success rate. It is focused on aligning people's behaviors and skills with the right positions.
- Profits Aren't Everything, They're the Only Thing by George Cloutier - Don't blame the economy. If your business is failing it's your fault. This is a somewhat controversial in your face book about profits being the most important thing in business. The book is loaded with advice from Cloutier, a turnaround management expert.
- Key Performance Indicators by David Parmenter - Developing, using and implementing winning KPIs. Parmenter teaches you how to develop a scorecard using 12 logical steps. He provides all the tools you need to master a KPI driven strategy.
- Law of Connection by Michael Losier - Explains the 4 communication styles, how to recognize them and how to communicate with each style. It is the ultimate book for building rapport.
Make this your reading list for 2017. Add a few of your own and remember to pay it forward. Recommend each audio you listen to or book you read to someone within your circle of influence.
I would love to hear what some of your favorite books are. Please comment and let me know. I am always looking for more to add to my library.
