Tools of Titans: Jason Nemer on Acroyoga

Just when I thought yoga couldn't be any harder...in this section I learned about Acroyoga which was pioneered by Jason Nemer a past acrobatic champion for the United States.

Before diving into the yoga portion, they tell a story about how Jason became "homeless". He had made the decision that he would travel and teach yoga so he was living out of a van. On his 30th birthday his friends threw him a party where he got a case of coconuts and a book on Buddhism. That same night his van got stolen so instead of getting angry he popped open the book and chopped open a coconut. It was in that moment that he decided he would travel the world and teach people Acroyoga. A pretty wild story as he hasn't lived in the same area since for more than three weeks.

The only things he travels with are frisbees for disc golf and a special tea that people in China call "Duck Shit Oolong Tea". As the story goes the Chinese people knew the tea was so good they didn't want anyone to steal it, hence the name duck shit tea. I had traveled to Thailand where I had the privilege of drinking Thai iced tea which is my all-time favorite drink, so this part brought back good memories for me.

The section went on to explain the logistics of Acroyoga and even broke it down by photos. Maybe one day I will give yoga a shot...but not today.

Some advice Jason gave was to play and move more. If there was one thing he could do for people it would be to get them to play to improve their health and happiness. He also said "treadmills kill your spirit" which settles the debate I have with my wife that running outside is better then running on a treadmill.

Lastly, he tells everyone to not over-compartmentalize. For people who practice yoga, do you actually apply it? When in traffic or needing patience with someone? How are you bringing this into the world? This one goes for everyone not just people who do yoga. I meditate daily but struggle to apply it in situations where I know it can help. Something to work on for sure!
