The Scrum Body of Knowledge (SBOK?) recommends four tools for the Create Project Vision process: Project Vision Meeting, JAD sessions, SWOT Analysis, and Gap Analysis. These tools are accompanied by soft skills and several possible inputs to help keep the statement focused and usable.
The Project Vision Meeting brings together key stakeholders to identify business requirements, stakeholder expectations, and develop an effective Project Vision Statement. Scrum encourages close collaboration with all business representatives to gain their buy-in and deliver greater value.
JAD Sessions are highly structured, facilitated workshops that enable stakeholders and decision-makers to arrive at a consensus on project scope, objectives, and other specifications. These sessions increase user participation, speed development, and improve specifications.
SWOT Analysis is a structured approach to project planning that evaluates the internal and external factors that could impact the project. This analysis identifies strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to help stakeholders provide direction to achieve project objectives.
Gap Analysis is a technique used to compare the current, actual state with some desired state. It determines and documents the difference between current business capabilities and the final desired set of capabilities. This tool can identify missing products or services and opportunities for development to bring an organization to the desired state.
By using these tools, companies can develop a Project Vision Statement that is a thoroughbred, poised to win the race towards success.
