Tools for Copilot for Microsoft 365
As promised in my previous article (Copilot Tools | LinkedIn), here is the diagram of tools for Copilot for Microsoft 365.
Way more complex than other Copilots, as you may notice, because this product is the most complete of them all and supports the most of use cases for businesses and enterprises.
One thing to call out is Microsoft Graph, which is to represent all data stored in Microsoft 365 tenant (i.e., emails, documents, meetings, chats, and user profiles, etc.) and APIs to access them. Graph is unique for Copilot for Microsoft 365 because the product must live inside a 365 tenant, and that's why you have to have a M365 enterprise subscription to use it.
Another thing to note is "Sematic Indexes", you can think of this as your own "language models" for your own tenant's data. It is called "indexes" not "index" because you end up with one tenant wide sematic index and one user level sematic index per licensed user. These indexes give Copilot for Microsoft 365 the capability to understand your tenant's data and context, in addition to the general knowledge of the world, which is provided by the "LLMs" outside of the boundary of your M365 tenant. The terminology for this is called "AI grounding".
Happy leap day everyone!
