Toolbox for problem Solving

Looking at a lot of people getting stressed, anxious and lose track while getting lost in details when trying to solve a problem. With a fast paced life, both personal and professional, we need to start simplifying things in order to stay on track and not get stressed about everything that comes our way. Here are a few simple ways to solve problems that I learnt while researching this topic:

  1. Define the problem: Start by identifying and defining the actual problem. Be clear and crisp with your problem statement. This will be the guiding light to the entire process of solving it.
  2. Explicitly state the assumptions: When the problem statement is defined, it is important to lay down all the assumptions that you have made. This is crucial, as we get into the problem solving process, we tend to assume a lot of things and start treating them as real facts. Sometimes, this can bring you back to the starting line because you might have treated these assumptions as facts which were not so.
  3. Analyze the problem: Once you've gained clarity as to what the actual problem is, it's time to analyze the problem. This will be a predecessor to structuring it. Note down how many levels would it take to solve it, how many possible solutions or touch points would potentially be needed to attack the problem.
  4. Create a structure of the problem: Structuring could be based on likelihood of achieving a solution, or in order of simplicity/ complexity, how easily the outcome could be reached, etc. There are ways of eliminating each structured approach you've created based on further analysis or as you are progressing in the process or simply by doing that step.
  5. Hypothesize the solution: This stage is at a point when you've gathered more input from the required parties, got answers to your questions, stated your assumptions and stated multiple possibilities. Initially, it may be possible that your hypothesis might not work out to get you to the solution. But with more practice, you’ll be quicker to choose the right one.

GO IMPLEMENT!! You are ready! Get to work ??Good luck!
