Tool Steel D2: Versatility and Performance for Industrial Tools
Specifically designed for the fabrication of industrial tools, AISI D2 tool steel (WNr 1.2379) emerged as one of the most sought-after materials at the UTSteel booth during Metalloobrabotka 2024. "The high demand for D2 reflects a market trend, indicating that manufacturers worldwide recognize the value of this alloy, which boasts superior resistance to wear and corrosion," explains Gerry Cheng, Marketing Director at UTSTEEL.
With a two-decade tradition in the production of D2 tool steel, UTSteel maintains an annual production of more than 3,000 tons at the TTSCO factory, consolidating itself as a reference in the supply of this material.?According to Cheng, compared to other steel alloys, D2 stands out not only for its superior performance but also for its excellent cost-effectiveness, especially in applications requiring minimal maintenance and extended tool life.
"D2 is notable for its high chromium (> 11%)?and carbon (> 1.4%)?content, offering a unique combination of hardness and wear resistance. This steel makes it possible to keep the blade edge sharp in a variety of harsh working environments, particularly in industrial knife applications, making it widely used in the industry," emphasizes Cheng.
Currently, at the TTSCO factory, UTSTEEL manufactures round bars and plates with diameters and thicknesses ranging from 200 to 1000 mm, and maintains strategic partnerships for production above 1000 mm. During Metalloobrabotka 2024, UTSTEEL showcased its commitment to expanding and serving the Western market by providing specialized support at the event, and remains available for any inquiries and needs.
