Toohil Announces State Grant for Road Improvement Project in Sugarloaf Township
HARRISBURG – Rep. Tarah Toohil (R-Luzerne) today announced the awarding of a $342,424 state grant for a road project in Luzerne County that will improve safety for area residents and motorists. Toohil played a key role in securing the funding.
Specifically, the grant, which was made available through the Multimodal Transportation Fund Program, will be used by Sugarloaf Township to complete Phase III of the Old Berwick Road Improvement Project. The project includes the conversion of PA Route 93 from single-lane access into two-lane access, traffic signals, pavement markings, and the addition of a southbound turn lane. An old culvert will also be replaced.
“I fully support this project to relieve traffic congestion on Old Berwick Road, which currently serves as a nexus for community and commercial access in Sugarloaf Township,” said Toohil. “The road improvements will facilitate economic development and resolve a long-standing safety problem related to traffic congestion.”
The funding was approved today by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, which was established as an independent agency that holds fiduciary responsibility over the funding of programs and investments in Pennsylvania’s economic growth.
