Too Busy For What Matters Most
A couple of weeks ago my wife served me notice with some much needed truth.
She asked me if I was spending enough time reading the Bible and praying. She knows our routine at home. I like to study the Bible early in the morning and listen to great teachers as I prep for my day.
But she knew I’d been burning the candle at the both ends. She observed how it seemed easy for me to get up extra early and get an hour in on the bike and let my time with God slip by.
She said, “Dan, when you’re too busy for prayer and Bible time, then you’re too busy.'
Boy did she hit the nail on the head. Her reminder caused me to think back on my life as a young man.
When I was 22-years old, just graduated from college, I would listen to cassettes (remember those!) of Charles Stanley as I drove to the office.
Those messages shaped me as a young leader. For me, keeping up on my spiritual growth was essential for my personal and professional life. And it still is.
As the CEO of Chick-fil-A, a healthy spiritual life remains a key cog in my leadership wheel. Our corporate purpose states: “To glorify God by being a Faithful Steward of all that is entrusted to us. To have a Positive Influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A.”
If I get too busy with “other things” it can become easy to lose sight of that purpose.
What are your essentials? What is that keeps you focused on what really matters in life and in your work?
Today’s message is simple. If you’re too busy for the things that matter most in your life, then you’re too busy. Have a great weekend!

5 年Thanks for sharing this!! As a pastor I often let the same thing happen. I have to stay plugged in to Jesus to be able to face life each day!!
To me Too Busy really means it’s not a priority. When we get out priorities in check most things fall into place. Begin each day with a thankful heart regardless of our circumstances. Gratitude begets a Great Attitude. Make it a Most Praise Worthy Week!

5 年I start my day walking my dog listening to a podcast of our ministers message, Cissi Frankin Leach, Tim Tebow, or Andy Stanley to name a few. It's one of the many things I do to keep my head in Scripture on a daily basis. Thank you for sharing!!
