Too busy being mediocre to be great?

Too busy being mediocre to be great?

Procrastination, it’s a subject I have been wanting to blog about for a while now, but I have just not got round to it

Ok but seriously in my line of work I hear excuse after excuse from businesses, for not developing their staff team and right now is no different, Covid id no excuse for abusing your staff

We are too busy

We are working from home

We don’t need it !

The thing is right now with so many uncertainties we find ourselves to busy being mediocre to become great !

Yes that’s right, we are so busy doing what we do, doing ok, making an ok profit, getting by with grants that we have forgotten to strive for excellence.

But what if ?

Now most of you, I hope will be exercising your body at least twice a week. Arms, legs and core all get the effort required to keep them in shape (especially with Christmas on the way )

But, what about your mind?

The brain is one of the biggest muscles in the body, when was the last time you gave it a work out?

Psychologists have proven a healthy mind is essential for a successful business, setting targets, having plans, creating and problem solving, all stimulate the brain and push us on to greater success.

Right now it may look bleak, but it is a time of opportunity like never before for those that grasp the moment, those who adapt, those who find the gaps in the market and are prepared to be bold.

“Yes, but we are not like that” I hear you thinking, “we don’t have opportunity to adapt, our customers don’t want it, we just do what we do”

Massive action =massive results, be bold, be creative

If you don’t stimulate the brain it gets bored, if you don’t offer your staff something new they get bored.

I see it all the time, sales staff that have a target of 10 sales a day, get them by 2 pm and do sod all for the rest of the day. Bored!

Teams doing things in a certain way, because it’s always been done like that, chatting about, if we just did this instead, we could save millions. But do they ever tell the managers?….course not

They are like the pacing lion in the zoo, so full of potential, but can’t, will not or don’t use it.

If we do not offer the environment to grow, to be appreciated, to learn, guess what, they wont !

Regular training will inspire them, regular training will get them excited about targets and smashing them and achieving more, regular training will bring out the ambition in them. You will start promoting more from within, they will generate great ideas and before you know it your business will go from doing ok, to being brilliant. A vibrant outward looking business everyone is talking about.

So next time someone offers your team some training, or a staff member requests it, take a long term view of things. If you want lazy brained staff, bored and just doing enough, carry on.

If you want a dynamic, high achieving team, full of potential and bringing in the profits, its time to get those brains to the training gym.

I offer online and in house training, one to one and group work, so if you want to know more, drop me a message
