Tony Robbins | If Your Goal Doesn’t Scare You, Find a New Goal

“Larger than life?goals are about taking a?deeper calling inside of us and having so much resolve in their purpose, that we see them through, no matter what.”?
I’m?about to hit my goal of providing 1 billion meals through my 1 Billion Meals Challenge in partnership with Feeding America - two years ahead of schedule.?
At one point, I couldn’t have imagined hitting this goal.?
It was a goal that started with a decision I made?at age 11, when a stranger showed up at my house on Thanksgiving with a basket of food. The decision was that if strangers cared, I would too, and that I’d find a way to give back. ?
I had no idea how I was going to make this happen at the time. At age 17, I took what little money I had, and made baskets of food for two families in need in my neighborhood. ?
The next year I fed?four families, then ten, and that number grew to 4 million meals, then 100M meals, and then finally to 1 billion.
Making a goal a reality is more about starting, taking the first step, even when the next one hasn’t appeared in front of you, than anything else.?
The truth is your goals need to scare you a little...?
If they don’t, you’re not dreaming big enough. ?
But how do you set and achieve BIG goals? Or what?my dear friend Peter H. Diamandis calls a moonshot goal? Something BIG, world-changing, and a little bit crazy...?
I’ve learned a lot about goals in my 63 years on this planet. And whether you’re looking to change the world, support your family, or have an impact on total strangers in a BIG way, there are 3 keys that I’ve found invaluable throughout my own journey.
1. Change your SHOULDS into MUSTS?
The first step is to turn your goal into a MUST, not a should. ?
A “should” you will do when life is easy – a “must” you will make happen no matter what. ?
What’s the difference between a should and a must??
REASONS.?
Reasons come first; answers come second. ?
If you have a strong enough why, you can do anything. ?
2. Don’t fall into the trap of “the tyranny of how”?
What keeps people from making moonshot goals real??
People ask how first. This is the wrong place to start because you’ve never done anything like this before, so even subconsciously, your mind will trick you into thinking you can’t do it. ?
You don’t know how – and that breeds uncertainty. ?
When your what and why are strong enough, there’s a level of certainty that shows up in your nervous system that will not only see the goal through, but also inspire others to participate with you. ?
Moonshot goals are not done by individuals. Individuals may stimulate it, but it takes a team, an army of people to see it through.?
So watch out for the tyranny of how. Get your what and why so strong that it creates certainty in your body.?
3. Tap into the power of momentum ?
Success breeds momentum. ?
Have you ever heard the term, “the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer?” I’m not necessarily talking about finances. But think of happy people; they tend to just get happier. And the same goes for sad people.?
There’s a cycle to it, what I call the Success Cycle.?
Most people’s results don’t reflect their true potential. ?
If you don’t have certainty that’s it’s going to work, you do this thing called trying to justify that you’ve done enough.?
But this isn’t tapping into your full potential.?
As your belief in your idea or goal becomes poorer, so does your potential, your action, and your results.?
But it works the other way as well...?

And it affirms your own belief. It creates an upward spiral. ?
You may be wondering how you can change your certainty about something you’ve never done before.?
Take athletes for example. Have you ever watched a player go to shoot a free throw or a kicker go to make a field goal and you just know they’re going to miss??
It’s because you sensed the uncertainty in their physiology. ?
So how can you create certainty??
You produce the result so perfectly, vivid, clear, and emotionally associated in your mind first.?
Your brain doesn’t know the difference. And you’ll see athletes do this all the time in practice.?
They’ll make the shot repeatedly in their mind. ?
Give yourself the experience over and over again so vividly and certainty will follow. ?
When it comes to my moonshot goals, my team and I are looking at filling the hole for the projected 345 million humans currently facing food insecurity while also looking at a long-term solution for worldwide hunger.?
We’re providing clean water to 250,000 people in India with the goal to make that 1 million. It’s estimated 2 billion people on this planet are lacking safe drinking water. ?
We’re helping to save thousands of children from slavery through organizations that provide rescue and rehabilitation services with 29,000 rescued so far.?
Thousands of youth are being empowered through my Foundation’s Global Youth Leadership Summit each July where we teach young people the skills to identify their own core leadership strengths.?
And we’ve provided funding to send?ground-breaking portable baby incubators to?Ukrainian health care facilities that provide labor and delivery services. Through our support, 100 life-saving incubators have already been distributed that will?help thousands of newborns.?
These problems we are trying to solve can seem insurmountable. But when you have a goal you care deeply about...?
Something outside yourself...?
Something you will go to the ends of the earth for...?
That’s a moonshot goal within reach.?
What extraordinary achievements can you make happen for yourself and our world by thinking big? ?
What goal can you bring more certainty to? ?
Where can you start today, my friend??
Here’s to making the impossible possible. ?
