Tonight on "Steve Rubin's Saturday Night at the Movies," Bill Malone discusses "Forbidden Planet" and the birth of Robby the Robot
I’m pleased to announce that Bill Malone, the world’s leading authority on “Forbidden Planet,” and a fine writer/director as well (“House on Haunted Hill,” “Parasomnia,” “Creature”), is tonight’s podcast guest on “Steve Rubin’s Saturday Night at the Movies” on Spotify. As many of you know, Bill owned the original Robby the Robot for many years until selling him recently. He’s also a fountain of information on the 1956 MGM science fiction epic. I first met Bill in 1974, when I began researching a “Forbidden Planet” retrospective for Fred Clark and Cinefantastique. I walked into his den and nearly fell over when Robby was standing there. We have been good friends ever since. In fact, the first time I ever saw a movie on videotape was in Bill’s den when he ran John Carpenter’s original “Halloween” on a reel-to-reel video recorder!
