1. Community Spotlight

We’re thrilled to introduce Community Spotlight. Each month in this feature of our newsletter, we’ll share insights, perspectives, and highlight success stories from across the education sector. We’ll have contributions from our advisory board, internal experts, and guest writers.

This month, we’re starting with 2025 and the Future of Online Learning in Higher Ed by our advisory board member, Kate Lindsay. In this thought-provoking piece, Kate explores how higher education institutions are cautiously navigating the evolving landscape of online learning.

Key themes include the integration of AI in teaching, the rise of microcredentials to meet workforce needs, and the importance of ethical, inclusive, and sustainable practices in education. Kate also discusses how financial pressures and global market opportunities are shaping the future of online learning.

Her conclusion is clear: 2025 is a pivotal year for meaningful transformation in higher education. The challenges are real, but so too are the opportunities for innovation and progress.

“Universities, with their trademark cautious pace, may now be lacing up their running shoes to join the race of online learning innovation. But let’s be honest—when it comes to embracing transformation, higher education is more of a marathoner than a sprinter, with occasional detours to debate the route. As we step into 2025 the journey toward a truly reimagined online learning ecosystem is just beginning. It’s not about sweeping overnight changes but rather the cautious first steps of institutions realising that the path ahead requires agility, bold thinking, and may be fewer pit stops for deliberation.”

3. Are you making the most of digital assessments?

Each month, we’ll be sharing tips to help you enhance your assessment strategy and get the most value out of digital assessment tools.?

Starting or expanding your digital assessment journey?

Finding the right implementation approach can set the foundation for long-term success. That is why we offer flexible solutions to meet each institution's unique goals and challenges.?

Here are three pathways to consider:

Trial

A trial is a quick way to experience our platform firsthand. It allows institutions to test key features - such as Smart Question Banks and Integrity Tools - within a controlled setting. A trial provides a hands-on understanding of how our solutions align with your assessment goals before making a broader investment.

Pilot Program

A pilot program offers a structured approach to introducing digital assessments in selected courses or departments. This method supports institutions in refining workflows, collecting meaningful feedback from educators and students, and gradually expanding digital adoption. Pilots are particularly beneficial when transitioning to new assessment models, such as remote proctoring or hybrid exam formats, ensuring a seamless shift before scaling up.

Full-Scale Deployment

For institutions ready to embrace digital assessment at scale, a full deployment provides educators with comprehensive tools and training to streamline exam management and grading. This approach ensures alignment across departments while allowing flexibility in adoption. Whether implementing fully digital exams or a blended format that includes paper-based assessments, our solutions cater for both. Full-scale deployment creates a cohesive, future-ready assessment framework with long-term benefits.

No matter where you begin, success starts with clear goals, stakeholder collaboration, and a well-defined strategy.

4. Events

"In January our team joined over 35,000 educators and EdTech enthusiasts at Bett UK 2025. It was a special year for Bett celebrating 40 years of driving better education globally.

It was an incredible opportunity to connect with educators and EdTech leaders shaping the future of learning. Highlights included Stephen Fry’s captivating keynote and Rose Luckin’s thought-provoking analogy on AI: 'It’s a stallion, a beautiful beast, but not one to let run loose.'

This was a powerful reminder that while technology can drive innovation, it must always prioritise people—fostering empathy, respecting the social aspects of education, and supporting human connections over sheer efficiency.

At Tomax, we strive to blend technology with human expertise, empowering our partners to deliver education that ensures geographical constraints, personal and professional commitments, and other barriers never stand in the way of individuals pursuing high-quality education.

We left inspired and excited to continue these important conversations. If you couldn’t attend, let us know - we’d love to share our takeaways!"
