I just came back from Creator Economy Live (you can read my roundup here). The event was awesome.

At most conferences the most revealing conversations are those that happen over drinks. Sitting at a bar in Harrah's Casino, a creator friend of? mine shared stories of countless newcomers attempting to launch products only to see them fail. That they often underestimate the sheer amount of work it takes to create something compelling.

The warehouse for my products is a revolving door of creator brands," he revealed. This stark reality was a far cry from the glossy success stories often showcased. His advice to aspiring creators has become more grounded in realism: "Keep your day job.

The creator economy is teeming with opportunities, yet it's also rife with complexity and challenges.

You frequently hear that "being a creator is the most desired job among young people today." It's enticing and alluring. But, the whole thing reminds me of the Tom Sawyer effect. Much like Tom who cleverly convinced his friends that painting a fence was desirable, today's digital platforms and the hype cycles paint a misleading picture of creator life.

Being a creator isn't easy. It becomes a job; it requires relentless dedication, strategic thinking, the ability to constantly adapt, and a lot of hard work. Success requires more than just passion—it demands resilience, business acumen, and an unwavering commitment to your craft.

While I'm bullish on the opportunities the creator economy presents, We often gloss over how it's an incredibly challenging journey.

The creator economy is a land of opportunity, but it's not a landscape where every seed of effort blooms into success.

The Implications Of TikTok & 30 Min Uploads

Short-form content grabs attention, but long-form content builds connection.

With the advent of the 30 minute uploads TikTok is undoubtedly attempting to chip away at YouTube's marketshare.

This approach hinders the development of deep connections between audiences and creators, leading to a more transient viewership. Consequently, it becomes significantly more challenging to cultivate a lasting and sustainable following on TikTok compared to YouTube.

With TikTok's venture into longer videos, the lines begin to blur, raising a pivotal question: Will TikTok's expanded format nurture the same depth of connection that has been the hallmark of YouTube.

I also heard a lot about unsold creator product and shoddy workmanship at CEL and elsewhere. You have to treat your "product" as tenderly and completely as you treat your videos. Make it great and give it the attention it deserves or don't do it.
