TOM AND JERRY

When I joined my first organization as an HR personnel I was asked to watch Jerry Maguire in order learn a few things about the reality of organizations and how they functioned. As you enter the world of Human Resources there are going to be ample amount of movies, series and book recommendations that you’ll receive to extract a lesson or two regarding human organizational behavior wrapped in a visual or written entertainer. There’s no dearth of such movies or lessons regarding the same but till date I feel that no show could ever be as relatable as Tom and Jerry to any HR Recruiter. 

Wherein Tom (the recruiter) is always behind Jerry (the candidate) with all sorts of tricks up his sleeve, irrespective of the number of times he might fail. Tom never quits and always has a new antic to get a hold of Jerry. While Jerry on the other hand runs away at times but is aware about the environment around him and makes the best use of every tiny thing that he could get his hands on. Now Tom knows that Jerry is after the cheese (money) like every other mouse and is aware of where the cheese is and uses it to lure Jerry into a trap. Now I want you to imagine a scenario wherein Tom does set up the cheese but without the trap, do you think Jerry would believe that? This accurately depicts the current scenario that we face today, with the majority not willing to believe Tom with the piece of cheese. This is something that has to change, this is something that you can change as an HR Professional and all this comes with closure and a sense of belongingness to the client, to make them believe that there are no traps, just cheese.

Now what I want you to remember is-

·      Tom never quits.

·      Jerry is aware of the surroundings and so should Tom.

·      Jerry knows where the cheese is but it’s easier for Tom to get a hold of it.

·      Both need each other to keep the balance maintained.
