Tolu The Midwife
I'm a Nigerian born nurse and midwife, raised and trained in London, England. I have worked as a midwife for nine years and counting. I am in love with my job. I absolutely love delivering babies. It brings me great joy and at times I find myself fighting back the tears. I wanted to be a gynaecologist (amongst a long list of many other professions) but was guided down this route by my mother who is also a nurse (with no regrets).
Despite living in London for almost three decades, I have very strong ties to Nigeria "home". Whilst visiting Nigeria when my grandmother passed away, I felt compelled to practice as a nurse/ midwife in Nigeria. This was not due to any negative care she received but because I fell in love with my culture, noted the gaps in healthcare and carved a dream of bridging these gaps in baby steps.
While edging closer to fulfilling my dreams, I want to share my thoughts on various experiences I have encountered, learn about the realities of healthcare in Nigeria and hopefully develop positive innovations to address any concerns.
(The small print) I am not a writer. Actually, I hate writing. I have procrastinated about this for so long as I live in fear of someone criticising my posts, my grammar and punctuation, (to name a few). All being said, most of my posts will be based on my thoughts and experiences.
I am open to learning so please feel free to educate me, comment, like and share.
Thanks for reading.
