It Tolls For Thee, And All - An Inclusive Re-Writing Of A Famous Poem.
It tolls for thee, and all,
by Dorothy Lovelace
No person is an island entire of itself,
Every being is a piece of the whole.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
The Earth is the lesser, for we share its soul.
We are all the less.
As well as if a mountain were.
As well as if it were your own home.
Each person's absence diminishes me,
Because I am involved in humanity.
Therefore, never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee, and all,
without disparity.
For Whom the Bell Tolls
by John Donne
No man is an island,
Entire of itself.
Each is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thine own
Or of thine friend's were.
Each man's death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee.
