Tokyo DisneySea's Top 4 Illusions
Tokyo DisneySea rightfully has the reputation for being one of the most detailed and elaborate theme parks in the world, and one of the things that makes it so special is the large-scale optical illusions it uses to keep the guests in the story.
1. While a volcano is a dramatic backdrop for Mediterranean Harbor and Mysterious Island, Mount Prometheus wouldn't make sense behind Cape Cod. So on that side the rockwork is sculpted with much larger details and bigger trees to diminish its scale.
2. To fit the story, Port Discovery needs to appear as if it connects to the real Tokyo Bay. So imagineers created a fake sea wall to disguise the service roads, and the illusion is sold by a fountain pouring through the gates.
3. You can see this aqueduct from Mediterranean Harbor, and Mermaid Lagoon and you'd be forgiven for thinking you're just seeing two sides of the same structure. Actually they're completely separate, masking service roads and backstage areas.
4. This tunnel between Mermaid Lagoon and Mysterious Island masks a service road that goes overhead, completely unnoticed by guests. Uniquely, Tokyo DisneySea has a backstage area in the centre of the park, masked from view by landscaping and walls.
