Together we move!

Chief Executive Officer, AMERICA’S CREDIT UNIONS. Our mission is to advocate for and advance an environment where credit unions thrive.
We’re just days away from a record-breaking Governmental Affairs Conference—this year marks 50 years of GAC!—and I can’t wait to see many of you in Washington, D.C. From the moment you arrive at the Convention Center, it’ll be clear to everyone that credit unions are in town and we’re ready to showcase how our movement is different—you may even see some of our Don’t Tax My Credit Union campaign as you arrive at DCA. GAC is the next step in our relentless advocacy to protect the credit union tax status. We’ve hit the ground running and kept up a drumbeat of visits these first weeks of the 119th Congress. Just take a look at the momentum we’ve built.
GAC comes at a critical moment when lawmakers are working to wrap up federal government funding and will soon turn to tax reform. The thousands of dedicated, passionate credit union advocates visiting Congressional offices this week will make it clear that credit unions’ tax status is an economic driver and benefit to all consumers—the consequences of removing it would be detrimental to many people’s financial well-being.
But we can’t stop with these visits. Together, we must continue to lay the groundwork. Together, we must highlight the purpose, passion, and strength of our industry. Whether you are in D.C. or back home, be sure to check out these actions for you and your credit union to take. These efforts are needed to maximize our impact with members, lawmakers, and on social media.

New study highlights benefits of credit union tax status
A new economic study looks at the impact of the credit union tax status on consumers, within the financial services marketplace, and on the nation’s economy. American Banker ran an exclusive on the study this morning, noting that “consumers would pay a steep price if credit unions were to lose their tax-exempt status.” These findings further reinforce the need for our unified advocacy efforts to defend not only our industry, but the well-being of people across the country.

Senate Banking Committee hears from CFPB, FHFA nominees
The Senate Banking Committee heard from two key nominees this week: CFPB Director nominee Johnathan McKernan and Federal Housing Finance Agency Director nominee Bill Pulte. Both shared priorities for their respective agencies that align with America’s Credit Unions’ priorities. We submitted comments for the hearing record, and engaged with committee members to make sure that an appropriately tailored regulatory environment will allow credit unions and the members they serve to flourish.
