In This Together to Help Dreams Thrive

I’ve learned a lot during my time in the credit union industry. One of my greatest takeaways is not necessarily what I’ve learned on a business level, but rather experiencing the compassion and focus on serving members that drives so many successful credit union leaders.

The credit union industry is unique.

A network of organizations that might be considered competitors in other industries bands together for one purpose: to serve members and help them build better financial futures. A credit union’s cooperative structure allows it to focus on meeting the needs of its members, not driving profit. So, together as an industry, we can focus on how to solve real problems, create real solutions and help dreams thrive.

International Credit Union (ICU) Day? celebrates the spirit of the global credit union movement. This year, we reflect upon the credit union movement's history and achievements as we look ahead to a bright future. Through the theme “Dreams Thrive Here,” we recognize the ways credit unions serve as catalysts to make different professions, personal choices and career paths real for members all over the world.

The global cooperative movement is strong.

This year we’ve experienced the global strength of our cooperative movement. After a series of devastating hurricanes struck the U.S. mainland and Caribbean, in addition to the wildfires that caused immense devastation in California, our entire industry mobilized to support those affected most. Beyond the physical damage these disasters caused, there’s also a human and emotional toll – which can’t be measured, but only understood and addressed with the utmost care.

I’m pleased to see how our industry has come together, from the World Council of Credit Union’s relief fund to National Credit Union Foundation’s CU Aid, and donations from credit unions and leagues across the country.

On ICU Day, and every day, I’m proud to work in the credit union industry.
