TOEFL SPEAKING TOPICS
Taking the TOEFL exam can open doors to a world of opportunity. A strong TOEFL score is the key to studying at top universities in English-speaking countries, but it can also benefit students applying to high schools or exchange programs. Even outside of academia, the TOEFL is recognized by over 9,000 institutions globally, making it a valuable asset for professional licensing or demonstrating your English proficiency for any purpose. The preparation process itself can significantly improve your English communication skills, boosting your confidence to speak and understand English in academic or professional settings.
Preparing for the TOEFL exam and honing your English language skills, especially in speaking, is crucial for success. The TOEFL Speaking section presents three integrated tasks that test your reading, listening, and speaking abilities.
Toefl Speaking Exam Format
The first integrated task focuses on campus life. Candidates read a brief passage on the topic and then listen to a conversation discussing it. Subsequently, they summarize the main speaker’s opinion within 90 seconds, utilizing their reading, listening, and speaking skills. Preparation time is 30 seconds, with 60 seconds allotted for the response.
Moving on to the second integrated task, which delves into academic topics such as life science, social science, and more. Following the same format as the first task, candidates read a passage and listen to a lecture on the same subject. They then summarize both within the given timeframe. Like before, preparation time is 30 seconds, and response time is 60 seconds.
Finally, the third integrated task revolves around academic themes as well. However, it consists of only two parts: listening to a lecture and summarizing it. Candidates have 20 seconds to prepare their response and 60 seconds to complete it. It’s essential to note that prior knowledge of the topics isn’t necessary, as all information is provided in the passages and lectures.
The general topics for TOEFL speaking are every day, campus life, and academics. Everyday topics include food, work, country, entertainment, travel, and so on. Educational topics include life science, social science, humanities, physical science, and so on.
