On Today’s Solar Eclipse

There is a lot of buzz about today’s eclipse, and rightfully so. These are rare, “everybody events,” and by that, I mean it’s something a mass of people will experience and enjoy simultaneously. Since eclipses are rare, and often appear biblically during major events (Jesus’ crucifixion, for example), many people wonder what this event has in store for us. Will Jesus return? I don’t know. It’s possible. What I do know is that when everybody awoke this morning, we are all one day closer to that day. So what are we to do in the meantime? Well, the same thing we are called to do everyday…point people to Jesus.

I think an eclipse provides a unique way to illustrate a life with God. We all walk in a spiritual darkness amidst the physical light when we are apart from God. Jesus came to show us the way out and into God’s marvelous light. This isn’t a light provided by the sun, moon, and stars; no, this light comes from the glorious presence of God Himself in Jesus Christ!

Today, many will experience walking in darkness during the middle of the day. It will not last, though. We will emerge moment by moment back into the daylight and the sun will shine like nothing ever happened. Still, we will have an experience to remember and share about what it was like when we emerged from the darkness back into God’s marvelous light. He never left us, but was there guiding us to and through it. The same will be true when Jesus returns, whenever that time comes, and friend, we are one day closer to that glories event!

When that day and time comes, we will see that perpetual light of God in ways we never thought possible. I know I look forward to God sharing with me the perspective I can’t gain in this world about how He was with me and at work during the darkest times of my life. The same is true for you! So, whatever you do today, know you can share with others how God and His goodness led you out of darkness and into His marvelous light!
