Today's Protagonist: The Casting Director
Part 28: THE CASTING DIRECTOR
Some actors automatically get the job.
Whether it’s because they are a household name, or they have friends in high places, who knows the real reason…
The rest of the actors out there though have to go through one gatekeeper…
And that is-
This week’s protag:
The Casting Director.
Now, they have an interesting job.
Most people in production aim to support the director’s vision, be it with locations, design, sound, or did we mention locations ;)?
One key difference is that the Casting Director has to do their entire job before production even starts.?
This is unlike other positions which mostly happen during or after.
The casting director's decision is crucial to the production’s success and is the secret sauce that most don’t even notice.
What does this mean for me?
There’s a lesson here for us.
Sometimes we are working on a project or a task and we think certain elements are irrelevant.
Maybe we think that our actions don’t have consequences…
But really, every aspect is important.
Every piece is part of the puzzle of the life we are living.
And it matters.
The more you know.
It's time to make movie magic happen.
We’ll see you in the credits.

1 年Sometimes, we are completely post-production. Finding the right #VO to put the cherry on top!
That's an Important Position
How do unknown actors get in front of the likes of Meredith Tucker? I only see limited casting calls on Backstage and Actors Access, etc. We learn how significant CSA's are and what they do, but how on Earth did others get in front of such powerful players who collaborate with directors and producers? Please share that answer to the best of your ability. Thank you.
