Today's Protagonist: Art Director
Part 32: THE ART DIRECTOR
Finally.
A position that doesn’t have an acronym.
If you called this position The AD, you’d be in big trouble–
Confusing the production department with ART??
It’s ok, we forgive you.
This week’s protag:
The Art Director
You might be imagining a Salvador Dali look-alike–
Giving direction–
"That way! This way! Move the art to another corner!"
But that couldn’t be further from the truth.
The Art Director is the second in command to the production designer.
If the production designer is in charge of creating the Director and DP’s vision and bringing it to life…
Then the Art Director is the general on the ground.
Sometimes you need a bird’s eye view of the production–
And the rest of the time, you need someone to organize the troops into action.
What does this mean for me?
Take this as a brief lesson.
There may be a ton of positions in the production industry.
Some you’ve never heard of, some you know well.
But the main takeaway is to realize that no one does it alone.
If there’s ever a person declaring themselves ‘Self-Made’...
They might not be telling the whole truth.
Partnerships and relationships–
Supporting and complimenting–
That’s how real progress is made and that’s how big-budget projects become successful.
It's part of our business too and we value all of our partners.
The more you know.
It's time to make movie magic happen.
We’ll see you in the credits.
