Today's First World Problem: The reason New Zealand needs Immigrants

Today's First World Problem: The reason New Zealand needs Immigrants

I rung Auckland Transport today to explain that my soon to be 5 year old daughter, who has started school early, was being charged the adult rate on her bus trip to school each day.

Their advice: “Get her to wear mufti to school (so the bus driver does not suspect she goes to school), change into her uniform at school and do the same on the way home”. I asked the help desk employee if she thought that was a good and practical idea.  She thought it was a very good idea.

I suspect we have reached the very bottom of the evolutionary scale with this particular employee.   It is little wonder that industry and commerce throughout New Zealand requires immigrants to fill roles. It is not about lower pay, but about basic skill-sets!

Does she have a HOP card? This shouldn't be happening (for any reason) but maybe her card was set up as an adult one. And that's impossible to change, as I discovered with my daughter's card. You have to bin the "wrong" card and start again.

Your daughter must have inherited your lovely height Hamish! I've found from bitter experience that it's best to submit to transport bureaucracy.
