Today: US Cyber Attack
If you noticed a number of key websites are inaccessible today, or if you noticed your own website is inaccessible or having issues – you're not alone.
Reports are coming out of major news outlets throughout today that a major cyber attack has taken place on many eastern States across the US.
The type of attack has been identified as a DDoS attack, according to USA Today "Denial of service attacks are when someone, or a group of people, floods a particular site or service with large amounts of fake traffic in an attempt to overwhelm the system and take it offline. It was not immediately clear who initiated Friday's attack or why."
The main attack was on Internet performance company Dyn - which brought too many popular sites to a standstill.
Dyn confirmed the attack around 8:45am today, noting that "this attack is mainly impacting US East and is impacting Managed DNS customers in this region. Our Engineers are continuing to work on mitigating this issue."
Sites affected: Spotify, Basecamp, Twitter, GitHub, Paypal, Reddit, Netflix, & more.
A Lesson For Us
Backup your files, as often and as automatically as possible. You never know when the proverbial dung will hit the fan. If your site goes down and gets wiped - how soon can you get back up and running?

8 年backup is always a good idea, but not anything that would help with dyn dns type attack. This is not anything wrong with users systems but infrastructure issue "your phone is fine, the phone company is down" ;) :D
