?? Today, let's take a trip down memory lane! ??

About 6 years ago, EE Engineering embarked on an extraordinary journey collaborating with the construction of the floating dry dock housing the renowned museum ship, Pommern, in the Mariehamn Maritime Museum, ?land Islands, Finland.

Originally constructed in Scotland in 1903, Pommern stands as the sole tall ship worldwide to preserve its original structural integrity from its active service era. Since 1953, it has been serving as a museum ship, maintaining its position adjacent to the esteemed ?land Maritime Museum. The groundbreaking dock, built in the water, underwent meticulous craftsmanship by ByggAb (?land), with EE-Engineering contributing to the manufacturing of the dock gate.

EE-Engineering proudly oversaw the design and manufacturing process with the mission of providing a long-lasting, trustworthy gate dock. In our commitment to excellence, we entrusted Trelleborg with the task of providing a purpose-built, leak-free alternative to a standard D-fender. The chosen solution, the Gina gasket, not only significantly reduced the number of required gaskets compared to a D-fender but also achieved the same impeccable result. Moreover, in collaboration with Trelleborg, EE-Engineering ensured the supply of its low-friction, wear-resistant UHMW-PE fender panels. These panels serve as an integral component in guiding the floating dry dock door into its recess, ultimately allowing the Gina gasket to be compressed seamlessly, thus sealing off the dry dock.

The gate measures 17.35 meters in length, 2.8 meters in breadth, and before ballast it weighs approximately 27 tons.

According to Emil Engblom, CEO of EE-Engineering, "The Pommern is widely regarded as an emblem of ?land Islands and its maritime legacy. As a result, substantial investments have been made in the refurbishment and preservation of the ship. A pivotal aspect of this initiative involves the construction of a dry dock, essential for the safe and efficient mooring of the vessel at the western harbor of Mariehamn."

As we reflect on this remarkable project, we commend the ingenuity and dedication of the companies involved, committed to preserving maritime heritage. The construction of the dry dock marked a pivotal moment in safeguarding the legacy of the Pommern, an emblem of Mariehamn's illustrious maritime history.

Today, the Pommern proudly stands tall in the waters of Mariehamn under the management of the ?land Maritime Museum Trust. We invite you to experience the rich maritime history of ?land by visiting the museum and exploring its fascinating exhibits. Additionally, stay tuned to EE-Engineering publications for more updates on our projects and initiatives.
