Today is International Women’s day and I’d like to take a moment to thank the fantastic women I work with.

I’ve worked hard to get to the position I am in today. I’ve had the pleasure of having great mentors who have guided me through working with politicians to working to influence politicians. To date, it has been men that have given me the guidance to grow within this field, including my current Manager.

My Manager has given me the space to lead my own team. A team of women.

It shouldn’t be a remarkable thing being a woman and leading a team made up of only women, however, it is. People wouldn’t think twice to remark on a male-only team, but we have some way to go before the same can be said of a female only team. We must do more to strike a better gender balance in our field of work and with the wider disciplines, we work within in property.

I am hopeful that Lexington Communications isn’t the only agency in the North to have gender balance. And I’m thankful for organisations such as Women in Property, that alongside so many other fantastic groups are doing all they can to promote women in our industry.

Too often I hear stories of women being the sole voice within project meetings. This has to change.

Day in and day out my team inspire me to aim higher and achieve more. They are all unique and bring so many different skills to the team and make me feel like there is no project that could cause us to stumble. Their achievements are daily, and their abilities are endless.

My ambition is that they will all go on to lead teams of their own. My ambition is to ensure we are mentors to the next generation coming in.
