Today was an incredible day

Feb. 13 ~ Some days, making virtual reality means pulling out your old college glove and playing baseball for an hour.

That’s what we did today, as we were shooting for an MLB project we’re working on.

I think back to the UNC days a lot and am incredibly grateful, and I’m incredibly grateful for days like today that help me remember them. It’s amazing how much from that experience and how many of those lessons map perfectly to business and trying to build STRIVR.

Take these 10, for instance:

1) Nobody cares. This is competition.

2) It will be harder than you think, but also better than you imagine.

3) When you start striving for your own approval and not someone else’s, you win.

4) Sometimes things don’t work out how you hoped. Move on.

5) Be a professional. Nobody wants to play / work with someone who thinks it’s all supposed to go their way.

6) Every successful person has some ego. The difference is who uses theirs positively and who allows ego to be destructive.

7) Being the best at your role for the team is also the best way to attain your personal goals.

8) There will be losses. If you don’t have the stomach for them, don’t play.

9) Winning doesn’t take heroes. Just take care of the details every day.

10) Enjoy the relationships. They’ll be the last thing standing.

There are a hundred other things …

You can handle any outcome when you make honest decisions on your terms.

Talent may earn you opportunity, but that’s about all it gets you.

No amount of talent can make the poor character of a person worth it.

If lack of ability is why you lose, you’ll move on. If lack of selflessness is the reason, you deserve to remember it forever.

I mean, there really are a hundred other things.

I knew how great that period of time competing in college was in the moment, but I couldn’t quite have known just how valuable it would be in business.

It took getting into the world and trying to help a group of people build something great from scratch to realize that.
