There is one thing that so many people do, which can have a very detrimental impact on our lives. I know this because I only truly discovered how much I used to do this just two years ago... And then I realised that I was not the only one! In fact this is such a common problem, that it can result in heightened stress, anxiety, and a lot worse. Today I want to talk about worrying...
How much so many of us worry, and what simple steps you can take which can have a huge impact. I didn't appreciate until 2 years ago that there is a completly different way to live. One which allows you to take challenges (irrespective of the size of the obstacle) in your stride, and to start to truly live in the present.
Firstly an experience from this week. Having recently returned to work myself, I initially looked at my diary on Monday morning, I looked at everything I had to get done. For the first couple of hours, I questioned how I would get everything accomplished. Also, my mind started to wonder. How would that person respond if I pushed back a deadline? What would a client say if I rescheduled a call? What happens if I don’t get everything done on time?
If you have just arrived home from holiday or started back at work it can be easy to have that feeling of dread!! You know the one I mean!! Within a few days you have forgotten all about that lovely break with your family, and you are back into the thick of things. Those feelings of anxiety and worry can then kick in and we wonder whether the holiday was worth it all all!!! Why is it that we spend so much of our time worrying?
About half way through Monday morning I snapped myself out of it. I recalled a fascinating statistic, that I came across a few weeks ago. 85% of the things we worry about never happen!!! Yes 9 out of 10 things. To stop myself overthinking, and worrying I just got started. I picked up the phone to some of my clients and deferred those meetings. They were incredibly understanding. I worked through the first critical tasks, and removed all other distractions. This action created more momentum and It felt good.

If you too find yourself worrying, you will find a 2 min video that I produced this week, very helpful. You can click on the link below to listen to this. This included 2 strategies that really help ??
One other thing I did, was I decided to identify the most critical priorities over the next 6 weeks. I identified only 3 things. Yes only 3 key things, and decided to focus on tasks aligned to these priorities only. Everything else could wait, or if they were important enough, I delegated to those experts who are helping me. This renewed focus massively helped…
Over the coming weeks, I am going to look at some of the underlying reasons why we worry. Why do we continue to do this. We know that there is no benefit on dwelling on work we have not completed, but we continue to do so. We know we should not fixate ourselves on the current results we are experiencing. On results we don't want, but we continue to do so!! Once you discover this and change the way you identify yourself the results are life changing.
