I wanted to think of something profound to say about the day but for a lot of mothers, this one-day-a-year holiday holds a magnitude of mixed emotions and feelings for many.?
?
It’s layered in your own experience.?
?
Some wanted to be mothers for a long time.?
?
Some may be in a season of loss.?
?
Some may be grieving a life they wished they had.?
?
Some may be in the throes of complicated emotions with their mothers.?
?
Some may be tired and burned out.?
?
Some may not even know what they want to feel or take in for this day on Sunday.?
?
So today I want to offer you something simple.?
?
Take a minute to think about something that you’d like to do for yourself.? It could be a gift. It could be something like carving out an hour for a class. It could be a request. An ask. It could be a nap.??
?
But whatever it is, just like you would on a page of a book. BOOKMARK IT.?
?
Make sure you share it with your partner or family or whoever may be around you.
?
It doesn’t have to be done on Sunday, May 12th.?
?
Just make a note of it. And then, commit to offering this gift to yourself.
There’s so much unnecessary pressure and expectation that surrounds Mother's Day and moms don’t often reap the reward of what it’s about.?
?
It’s about being validated, honored, and loved.? That doesn’t have to happen in one day. There should be a sprinkling of it throughout your daily life and long term.?
?
Like most one-day holidays that occur throughout the year, there’s a lot of hype, expectation, gift giving, flowers, etc, but it lacks the reality of what we want to feel daily.

?
That’s often an inward job.? One that is about self-love.?
?
So as you think about the one thing?to honor you in this Mother’s Day season, give yourself a break, and don’t worry if it’s not this weekend.??
?
Find something that fills your cup, brings a smile to your face, or infuses some joy.??
?
I decided for Mother’s day I am going to give myself this ? experience with Bird and Bear Collective.?
?
In case you’re interested, here are the details .?
?
Now I can rest easy going into the weekend and drop all the expectations.? This weekend will likely be like most days on the motherhood journey.??
?
I probably won’t sleep in because I can’t sleep past 6 am and I can’t say I won’t throw in a load of laundry.? Life is life when you’re a mom.??
?
So I’m glad I’ve bookmarked something for myself the following weekend.? Sometimes we don’t realize that our lives are created by the little things we do in our habits and our mindset.?
?
We can choose.? We can gain clarity in our days.? We can manage our time and our energy.?
?
We can say yes to some things and no to others.? We can change our minds.??
?
We can find moments of peace.? We can find joy.??
?
But we have to see it.? We have to bookmark? it.? We have to remember.?
?
And most of all, we’re modeling it for our little people.?
?
So if you’re looking for some small ways to nurture yourself or just begin, meet yourself where you are.?
