She Was an Artistic Entrepreneur
On this day in 1866 – At the age of 18, Vinnie Ream becomes the first and youngest female artist to receive a commission from the United States government for a statue (of Abraham Lincoln).
Plagued by controversy, she always made it a point to rise up above it. She was a savvy business woman who was, unfortunate, pressured by her husband to cease her ventures in favor of retreating into a traditional role.
Nevertheless, she created a legacy through a strong and enduring body of work.
Social and Spiritual Entrepreneurship
Born this day in 1857 – Ballington Booth, English-American activist, co-founded with his wife, Maude, the Volunteers of America (d. 1940). He was the son of General William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army and was a former officer in the Salvation Army. As of 2017 the organization owned and/or managed around 19,000 affordable housing units that provide homes to nearly 25,000 people each year. Their three main areas of work are in health, housing and human services.

The Unfinished List
July 28, 2009
When people ask me how I get certain things done, the response is often, "I work them into the cracks of my life between major commitments. Ironically, the things we do in those squeeze times are not always the least important, but sometimes the most.
Earthquake spasms create cracks in the surface of the earth and life spasms do the same in our schedules. That is why we can never be complacent and must always be aware of the landscape of our existence.
Because you have so much to accomplish and must make the best of every crack in your calendar 9as I am doing at this very minute), I am going to offer some suggestions in my next few posts. The first is about lists: ALWAYS HAVE AN UNFINISHED LIST!
If it gets finished without you adding to it, you are already behind and wasting time. Never let your list get empty. Always have something on it that you can be working on when an unexpected crack opens in your daily schedule. Categorize your list; let it flow into multi-layers; give it thought; give it prayer; keep it with you.

That's all for now because the crack is closing around me and I have an appointment across town.

The Best Investment: Young People
This was my church kid's group from Irvington Baptist Church in Fremont at Jenness Park around 1987.
The children are all grown now, with children and, some, with grandchildren of their own .
Many have become quite entrepreneurial. They are now raising new generations of leaders.
They are wonderful adults.
Many stay in touch with their old pastor.
The adults in the picture, Geneva and Beverly, are in Heaven now.
The beat goes on.
