Today a 5-year-old Taught Me Everything I Needed to Know

Today was Transformation Day.

It was a wild day of coming to grips with all of the things in my life that are preventing me from being the person I came here to be, supposedly. I learned, in no uncertain terms, that it has nothing to do with my past and nothing to do with the circumstances of today's world. It really doesn't, and neither do yours.

If you are certain that this is not true for you and that the handicaps that you experience as holding you back from your best self are rooted in your past, including your upbringing, your traumas, your tragedies, and your external constraints or limitations, then that is OK and I definitely would not want to argue with you about that.

But... today I learned (again) that I have something to say about how all of those things get dealt with and metabolized daily and I have a choice about how that is, even if I have been reacting the same way (habit) for years or even decades. I have the capacity to literally alter the way I manage my world experiences and to make that shift IN AN INSTANT.

I met with a beautiful child today and he was my chief assistant and consultant in my journey. Once I tracked him down, he introduced me to a 9-year-old friend of his and it was a lovely interaction, to say the least. I felt like I had known them my whole life!

We took a walk and ran into a relative of the 9-year-old, who was around 16 and although he seemed confused, he too brought a real delight to the conversation. He seems preoccupied and evasive, but somehow I resonated with him at a very basic level.

On the way home, we all met a young man who guided us back. He was idealistic and somewhat unleashed, and to say he was grandiose would be an understatement. He was amusing enough, though, to bring a smile to each of our faces, as if his dreams and illusions were entertaining enough, and if even a small portion of them would come true, it would be extraordinary, to say the least.

If you haven't guessed yet, you probably now see that all of these young men had something in common. Most young people do, I have found but these guys were more intimately related than usual.

They were all ME. With my eyes closed in a guided meditation, I met with them as they were back then and felt their core, through what appeared to be a very accurate experiential recall. I was able to experience the threads of my life that they all represented, and also to feel very deeply how important all of their experiences have shaped who I now have become and how, by looking closely, a commonality of greater purpose was able to distill out to the surface.

I AM all of them. I appreciate and love all of them. I carry with me every day the wisdom that each of them brought and continues to bring to me.

Here are some things in common. Each of them was doing their very best. Each of them was insatiably curious. Each of them wanted to be happy and make a difference. Each of them made mistakes, sometimes very serious ones. Each of them wanted to love life and they loved to share with others when they found something that could represent that adoration for life's fare, even if rare.

What a terrific experience. I have a much-expanded vantage point from which to see the unfolding of my life from then until now and can honor the entire ride in ways I never could before.

What a gift that was. What a gift they all were. What I gift life is.

When you come aligned with who you really are, including all of the parts of the past that have been hidden or forgotten, you are given the opportunity to live a life that can bring a new sense of purpose and wisdom. I love that, and imagine most people would. It was easy and the ROI (ahem...the over-21 adult term for Return On Investment) is beyond extraordinary.
