Toby Hoebergen - “Let me become part of your team”

TOBY HOEBERGEN has always worked in banking having amassed over 20 years experience in the industry.

“I’ve always been involved with numbers and completed a finance and economics degree, so that’s where things kicked off. I’ve also always been in lending as well, I realised it's a good pathway and most kiwi businesses are going to be lending.”

?Toby joined Vega around three years ago, and says he’s never looked back.

?“It's just so much more refreshing. There’s so many more options and so many more lenders out there. If there’s one that says no, then there's plenty out there that will say yes. The scope is huge.”

Based in Nelson he specialises in working capital, main bank SME deals, and commercial property purchases.

Toby says the SME space is exciting, but says when it comes to the main banks it can be an unloved part of the market - something he’s trying to change.

?“In that space where you don't have a million dollars of business debt you don't get a dedicated business banker or commercial manager. So we step into that space and become that banker. We either put it to the main banks, or to the non-banks to do some unsecured lending.”

?“It's massive because we can get people off the ground. A lot of funding is designed for growth, and expansion but we can do startups as well.”

?It’s something Toby believes saves so many small businesses time.

?“A lot of people say they simply couldn't have done it without us and without me.”

He says his clients can expect a keen eye, a refined attention to detail and a willingness to do the hard yards. Toby has connections with all the other professionals needed to help your business succeed and can work with them closely to get the results in any credit cycle.

“When funding is hard, preparation is key to getting lenders on board. Then they can put the time into actually assessing what's been asked for.” As for what sets Vega apart from the rest, Toby says it’s the full team of experts on hand for clients.

“We can handle everything. We have access to over 100 lenders and we know who's got funding, where they've got funding and where they've got appetite. We will get it done.”

“We are on the customer’s side. We are focussed on getting the deal done and because a lot of people are scared of the banks our job is to be in the middle, to help forge the pathway and reduce any barriers.”
