TMD Service Highlight - Medical Travel Grants
The ‘TMD Service Highlight’ series aims to showcase what our services achieve. We want to highlight what each service does and what it can create, so that you may better understand where your donations go, and why they are being used for specific services.
What is a medical travel grant?
Medical travel grants are grants of ￡250 that are provided to TMD families to support travel to medical appointments. All of our TMD families will have to drive, take a taxi, bus or train to get to essential medical appointments regularly, which is why the TMD medical travel grant was created. The medical travel grant can be used for all travel to and from medical appointments, easing the stress of the rising cost of travel.
TMD’s Medical travel grants were introduced in March of 2020, at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The grants were originally planned to launch in May, but due to the severity of the pandemic on our TMD families, we opted to bring them forward to March. The first grant was awarded on the 19th of March 2020 and since then we have provided ￡13,000 in grants to our TMD families.
Why are medical travel grants important?
Our TMD families need to travel to appointments, this is a must, what is not a must is the added stress of having to pay for travel to and from those medical appointments. The current cost of living crisis accompanied with high fuel prices intensifies this stress, turning an essential trip in to a financial problem. Fuel prices hit an all-time high last year of around ￡1.91 per litre (RAC Foundation, 2023), which showed us how important medical travel grants are for our families.
Our medical travel grants aim to provide some relief from those costs, allowing our TMD families to focus on themselves and not have appointments cause added financial stress.

What can you do?
Every donation we receive helps to fund our TMD services. This includes medical travel grants for our TMD families. At a time when cost of living is so high, medical travel grants provide much needed relief in an already stressful time.
