WEEKLY NEWS FROM THE LEWIS FOUNDATION

WE LOVE WORKING WITH OUR HOSPITAL PARTNERS

This week not only did we give away 471 of our packs to support adult cancer patients in hospital but we also focused on catching up with our existing charity The Lewis Foundation hospital partners and building relationships with new ones.

A lot of travelling this week as headed to - Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - CUH Cancer Support Service

Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Bedford Hospital NHS Trust

Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust ?

but it was absolutely worth it.

These meetings are so important as they enable us to:

* Really understand what the reality is for adult cancer patients and their loved ones in hospital

*What do people actually need

* A better understanding of the hospital and staff needs

* Is there something we are missing, could develop or do better

* Feedback about our existing work to shape our service

* Building relationships so we can have open and honest conversation to comfortably reach out to each other outside meeting up

* Having a good catch up!

This is why 8 years later we continue to provide a range of packs to help cancer patients, their loved ones and the hospitals , which flow out consistently across all the 17 hospital partners we support.

We hear first hand out our work makes a difference and we are proud to work with so many incredible people who make this possible.

SUPPORT FROM SCCYC

We'd like to express our gratitude to our friends at SCCYC Waterside Connect for their recent donation of toiletries-based products. They responded to our urgent appeal request, and their generous contribution will help us continue providing essential gift packs to adult cancer patients in hospitals.

It's truly inspiring to see one charity reaching out to support another. This collaboration demonstrates the power of community and the impact we can make when we come together.

To show our appreciation, we donated food items that we received but couldn't use in our gift packs to support their food parcels. It's a beautiful example of charities helping each other to make a difference.

Thank you, SCCYC, for your kindness and commitment to helping those in need. Your support means the world to us and the patients we serve.

If you'd like to contribute and help us meet our gift pack needs, you can check out our gift list for the items we require. Every donation, big or small, makes a significant impact.

Together, we can continue to bring comfort and care to those who need it most.

Thank you, SCCYC, for making a difference, and thank you to everyone who supports our mission.?

WHY DO OUR GIFT PACKS COST £3.60?

Have you ever wondered why The Lewis Foundation's gift packs for adult cancer patients cost £3.60?

Here's a peek into what makes this possible:

For us, it has always been about a patient having a choice of gift when in hospital. It is about patients selecting what they want and need and not us presuming what we think you want.

We have built this knowledge of what we people need due to working closely with NHS staff and patients over the last 8 years and all packs have been created as a result of feedback. We don’t want you to receive a bag and not use its contents.

We work closely with retailers, wholesalers, and suppliers to source high-quality items at the best possible prices. By building strong relationships with our partners, we can keep costs down while ensuring each gift pack brings comfort and joy to those undergoing cancer treatment.

Only about 5% of the products we include are donated; the rest, we fundraise for.

This means every £3.60 donation is crucial—it helps us purchase essentials like toiletries, snacks, puzzles, and more, all of which are carefully selected to make a difference in someone's day.

Your support ensures we can continue delivering these gift packs to adult cancer patients across the Midlands.

HOW OUR GIFT PACKS ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE?

This is why we do what we do. Karen shared how our gifts made a difference during chemo.

“I am a cancer patient at Northampton General Hospital and I would like to thank you for the amazing charity bags you give away. I started my chemo on Thursday and picked up a puzzle book to get me through the long day!

Also, on a previous visit, I picked up the Naturally TIWA body lotion for dry skin which is amazing for my skin which has noticeably changed since getting cancer.

Thanks again for the amazing work you do and managing to put a little sunshine into my day.”

Thank you for being part of something special.
