Title: Running Together: How My Son Taught Me to Cherish Every Moment

In our relentless pursuit of professional success, it's easy to overlook the subtle yet profound moments that truly enrich our lives. Today, as I remember my son Parker on what would have been his 24th birthday, I reflect on the lessons of presence, both in personal and professional spheres.

I recall the days when Parker and I used to run 5k races together. An avid runner myself, I was elated when Parker, at the tender age of 7, expressed his desire to join me. His first race is etched in my memory – his determination, his joy crossing the finish line, and the emotional embrace we shared thereafter. It was more than a race; it was a celebration of our bond.

However, being an entrepreneur and starting a business from scratch came with its own set of challenges. Balancing work and home life was a constant struggle. Often, I would come home, unable to put work in a "box," my patience wearing thin. Despite my efforts to be a great dad, there were times when I was physically present but mentally elsewhere.

Since Parker's passing, my perspective on life has profoundly shifted. The biggest transformation has been in understanding and valuing the essence of being truly present. It's a realization that came at a great cost – the loss of my son, who taught me more in his short life than I could have ever imagined.

This personal journey has significantly influenced my professional conduct. Now, when interacting with team members, customers, or partners, I ensure I am fully there – listening, engaging, and valuing each moment. This approach has not only enhanced my relationships but also brought a sense of fulfillment and authenticity to my work.

I urge you all to embrace this practice. Whether it's at home or at work, being present is a choice that can transform ordinary moments into extraordinary memories. It's about fully engaging in the here and now, appreciating the people around us, and recognizing the value of each interaction.

Now, every hug from my wife, my daughter, my stepson, or a friend is a moment I fully embrace. I am there, not just in form but in spirit, cherishing and absorbing the love and connection each moment offers.

I invite you to share your experiences and resolutions in being more present with your loved ones. Let's inspire each other to cherish every moment. And, as a challenge, why not send a message of love to someone right now, or greet your family with an embrace tonight? Take that time to be fully present.

To my beloved son, Parker, Happy 24th Birthday. Your spirit continues to guide and inspire me every day. You've taught me the invaluable lesson of being present, a gift that has profoundly changed my life. I hope you're celebrating joyously, surrounded by love, wherever you are.

In closing, In a world where time is often equated with money, let’s not forget that the most precious moments are those spent with our loved ones. Let's cherish every hug, every conversation, every shared silence. Because in the end, it's these moments that define the richness of our lives.

Happy belated birthday Parker, your presence has had, and will continue to have impact and a purpose. Pierre, you nailed it, presence is a practice that separates the good from Great. We all know when someone is really with us, or giving partial attention. As a leader, and simply as a fellow human being, the art of being present is a game-changer. It allows us to forge stronger connections, gain a deeper understanding, to help us genuinely guide, mentor, and support those around us. At our core, we all crave to be seen, heard, and understood. For a leader, this requires the ongoing practice of being present. Here’s to embracing the power of presence in both our personal and professional lives!
