The title was to grab your attention. This is not about a pregnant wild boar...but, well...yes it is!
I wonder what's all the emotional uproar on social media over the death of a pregnant elephant earlier this week!
Apparently, It's an illegal yet a common practice in that area to use crackers infused pineapples as a weapon of self defense against wild boars attacks. The fact is that one such pineapple was picked up and consumed by the elephant. No one schemed to do this. No one really fed the elephant.
While this act is definitely not justified by any means whatsoever, what is condemnable is the practice and not the act. My question is - is it okay if a pregnant wild boar died instead of a pregnant wild elephant because of such booby traps?
And the bigger question that arises is - are humans invading the natural habitats of wild animals? Are we poaching into their territory and using such savage mechanisms to defend ourselves in what is rightfully their place? Is this the root cause of all evil? Definitely a point to ponder.
Had the same elephant demolished few shops and tossed around couple of villagers in the air, then the media would have posted a different story about a savior who smartly used powdered pineapples to save the village from a wild elephant on a rampage! And all the netizens will be celebrating the valor of an unsung hero instead of mourning the death of a pregnant elephant!
All lives are indeed precious. But guess we need to look at it rationally sans all the hyperbolic emotional drama.
