Titbits 9: Bubbles

One of the critical things that they teach you when you are learning to swim is breathing, colloquially knows as bubbles. You need to inhale the air through your mouth and exhale it under the water through your nose. Tricky thing to do, if you haven’t done it. However, when you master the technique you suddenly find that you can go greater lengths, do more laps and build greater stamina. When you reach a bit more advanced state, the timing becomes critical too. You would just move your head sideways while doing freestyle, inhale the air quickly and without putting any resistance to water, take your head back in. I think the reason it is hard at the beginning is due to the fact that you need to unlearn the technique that you were using all your life – inhaling air through nose.

Only if we could unlearn few things that we have practiced for life, we could explore something new, gather more strength and reach still greater heights. Yeah, bubbles are important in real life too…
