Titanium Dioxide Prices

As of now, the Titanium Dioxide price has reached its lowest level in the past three years, particularly for paint grades, which are at their lowest ever. However, prices for special ink and master batch grades remain slightly higher. Despite the costs being higher than pre-COVID times, the selling price is lower, leading many Chinese titanium dioxide manufacturers to operate at a loss. Nonetheless, several factors indicate a potential price hike in the coming months if certain situations improve.

Supply and Demand: Efforts are underway to stabilize the surplus supply and saturated demand for TiO2. As demand gradually catches up with supply, we anticipate an increase in the price of TiO2 within the next month. In July, many titanium dioxide manufacturers have increased their lead time for production due to an increase in number of orders, indicating a potential shift in the market dynamics.

Raw Material Costs: The prices of raw materials, particularly ilmenite, are currently favorable for TiO2 companies. Lower production costs create an environment?conducive to a potential decrease in the price of TiO2. It can significantly change even with a fraction of increase in the price of ilmenite.

Energy Prices: Stability in natural gas and crude oil prices at a low to medium level helps maintain production costs for TiO2 manufacturers. This stable energy pricing supports the overall pricing dynamics of TiO2 and provides a supportive factor. Any increase in the energy prices may account for an upward price movement.

Manufacturing Process and Technology: Chinese manufacturers have demonstrated increased efficiency in the manufacturing process of TiO2. This improved efficiency results in cost savings and has the potential to influence the price of TiO2 positively. As more manufacturers adopt similar advancements in manufacturing technology, the quality of the TiO2 grades are improved. the price of TiO2 may experience an increase with the quality.

Currency Exchange Rates: The shortage of US Dollars in countries like Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Egypt has impacted their local currencies. However, the current USD to CNY exchange rate of 7.16, compared to 6.78 in January, is favorable to exporters in China. Fluctuations in currency exchange rates can impact international trade and may contribute to increased prices in these markets if the situation reverts.

Governmental Regulations: The recent closure of a Chinese TiO2 factory due to safety issues may temporarily affect the supply of TiO2. This disruption could potentially create a supply-demand gap, influencing the price of TiO2 in an upward direction as market dynamics adjust.

End-User Market Conditions: The market conditions for TiO2 are gradually improving, with construction projects that faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic now reaching the finishing stage in some countries. As a result, the demand for TiO2 is expected to increase. This growing demand may contribute to a price increase in TiO2 within the nearby future.

Considering these factors, we predict that the price of titanium dioxide will likely experience an upward trajectory in the next half of 2023. It is crucial to closely monitor market developments as factors such as raw material costs, energy prices, currency exchange rates, and regulatory changes can significantly influence the overall pricing dynamics of TiO2. Moreover, it is economically unsustainable for titanium dioxide factories to operate at continuous losses, which may further drive the need for a price adjustment.

It is important to note that these are estimations and actual market conditions may vary. Factors such as unexpected fluctuations in raw material costs, energy prices, currency exchange rates, and regulatory changes could impact the price dynamics of titanium dioxide and subsequently influence the pricing. Monitoring market developments and adjusting predictions accordingly is essential for a comprehensive understanding of the future price trends in the titanium dioxide market.

As of 18 July 2023, the lead time for reputable titanium dioxide companies has increased. Interestingly, some major players have quietly raised prices and temporarily halted order confirmations. This trend is particularly noticeable in the plastics and masterbatch grades, which are experiencing price hikes. Currently, medium-quality titanium dioxide companies have limited stock availability, while low-quality suppliers are capitalizing on the rising demand. In our case, June marked the slowest market output in the past few years. However, in July, we have received orders that compensate for both June and July. Please note that any orders placed will only have the materials released by August. The price of Titanium ore is increased from 1900 Yuan to 2050 Yuan. Additionally, shipping charges have been on the rise for many countries, further impacting the overall cost of transactions.
